The open-world plan
When the game moved to Ronin, the team said it would ship a series of updates culminating in a new game version, which it described as “an immersive open-world sandbox MMORPG experience that builds upon the existing foundation.”
The studio hasn’t said whether the teased map is part of that version.
Calamity has added new areas before. Its Aug. 19, 2025 patch notes added two city zones. One was the Factory Zone, which the notes said would later be open only to Factory holders. The other was Dragon Hall, with future access planned exclusively for Dragon Ring holders.
“Each Ring unlocks exclusive onchain and in-game benefits for holders, including boosts inside Calamity,” Ronin said in that post. It didn’t say what the boosts are or how big they’d be.
Each Ring started as an Artifact on Base. Holders burned their Artifacts through a migration interface that opened April 28, and a matching Dragon Ring dropped automatically to their connected Ronin wallet. No claim transaction was needed.
The team has said 5% of the WYRM token supply will be airdropped to Dragon Ring holders at the token generation event. Allocation sizes depend on the rarity of the original Artifact. The Rings are slated to be eligible for staking after TGE.
Each Ring also grants a cosmetic dragon companion NFT and unlocks a special in-game title when staked. The team has said the Rings will generate daily scrolls that boost EXP and item drop rates, with scroll power scaling to the ring’s rarity.
The Ronin Market listing shows a total supply of 1,077 Rings.
The game
Calamity Studios develops Calamity, a free-to-play 2D action MMORPG. It combines real-time combat, dungeons, boss fights, PvP, crafting and a player-driven marketplace. The team has cited World of Warcraft, Lineage, Diablo and Albion Online as influences.
Players can go solo or co-op. At the time of the Ronin migration, the game listed three classes, more than 40 skills, 30 customizable stats and more than 150 items.
Gameplay is fully off-chain. Claiming and trading NFTs happen in a separate browser dashboard, and players don’t need a wallet or NFTs to start. The in-game economy pegs 100 Gold to $1.
Calamity is available on Steam, the Epic Games Store, Android and iOS through TestFlight.
Playtests and rewards
Calamity has run its WYRM distribution through what it calls “Play-to-Airdrop.” Payouts depend on leaderboard placement, NFT holdings and contributions to the Wyrm Tribute, a compete-to-earn pool that pays USDC based on player performance.
The Icebound Season playtest ran Dec. 19 to 23, 2025. It launched the mobile version and piloted a 3v3 PvP arena. It also opened the Factory Zone and Dragon Hall and added fishing, with 3 million WYRM spread across multiple leaderboards.
A $50,000 playtest followed March 12 to 22, 2026. It ran five days of PvE and then five days of ranked PvP. Rewards totaled about $45,000 in WYRM plus $5,000 USDC, and the test added more than 140 new items, a crafting overhaul and a ranked arena with Combatant and Duelist leagues.
An earlier playtest introduced guilds of up to 75 members, with Sponsor, Scholar, Leader and Officer roles. Sponsors deposited Gold into a guild treasury and took a share of the Gold their Scholars generated.
The Wyrm Tribute pool for that test started at 2,000 RON, at a rate of 500 Gold to 1 RON.
