The Netflix showcase aired on August 27. Within days, GTA 6 pre-orders had reportedly climbed 436%, according to sales estimates from analytics firm Sensor Tower.
That’s an estimate, not a Rockstar Games figure. Take-Two hasn’t published pre-order numbers, and neither has Rockstar. What Sensor Tower tracks is modeled sales data, and its model says the spike landed immediately after the extended look went out.
The number kept climbing after the broadcast
Pre-order purchases reportedly rose further over the two days that followed. Sensor Tower puts cumulative pre-orders at around 4.55 million units, which the firm estimates translates to roughly $446 million in revenue.
PlayStation is running away with it. Sensor Tower’s estimates give PS5 77% of the spending against 23% for Xbox, or about 3.51 million PlayStation units and 1.04 million Xbox units.
All of that sits ahead of the game’s November 19, 2026 release date.
What the showcase actually showed
The gameplay reveal premiered on Netflix and gave fans a long look at Vice City, the relationship between Jason and Lucia, combat, robberies, vehicles, police pursuits and a wide range of open-world activities. It’s the most substantial look Rockstar has given anyone.
It also walked through in-game systems, the kind of detail that tends to move undecided buyers off the fence. You can switch between Jason and Lucia, store weapons in vehicle trunks and use a taxi app to fast travel around Leonida.
That last one matters because of scale. The GTA 6 map is much bigger than the maps in GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2, and fast travel is the concession that makes a map that size livable.
Six stars, smarter cops
Rockstar confirmed six-star wanted levels. The police also have a smarter identification system that recognizes outfits, faces and other details, and there’s a trick in the game for avoiding chases outright.
Small stuff, but it’s the small stuff that got clipped and reposted for 48 hours straight.
The frame rate argument didn’t slow anything down
None of this happened in a vacuum of goodwill. There’s an ongoing debate about the game’s performance, including reports suggesting GTA 6 could be locked at 30 FPS on consoles at launch. Those reports remain unconfirmed.
Buyers didn’t seem to care. With extended gameplay finally out in public and no signs of further delays, the pre-order surge was, in hindsight, the obvious outcome.
Sensor Tower’s model says $446 million in reservations. Rockstar says nothing at all.
