Winter’s a few months out, and Netmarble Neo isn’t waiting for the snow.

As of September 2, 2026, Season 2 of Game of Thrones: Kingsroad is live. It’s called Trial of the Reach Bannermen: Rose and Thorn, and it’s the clearest sign yet that the developers have stopped apologizing for the launch version and started building on it.

There’s one catch before you can touch any of it. You need to finish episode IV of the main quest. Do that, and Trial of the Reach Bannerman: Rose & Thorn unlocks.

The game people wrote off is doing fine now

Kingsroad hit Steam, Android and iOS last year to a middling response. That’s the polite version.

Since then the studio has been grinding through community complaints, and the scoreboard reflects it: the ARPG currently sits at a ‘Mostly Positive’ rating on Steam based on recent reviews. Players who stuck around through the rough patch are the ones collecting on it now.

The timing helps. House of the Dragon is in full swing, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is doing well, and fans appear willing to take Westeros in basically any format it comes in.

What Season 2 actually hands you

New co-op missions. New bounties. New achievements to unlock. Brand-new sub quests scattered through Trial of the Reach Bannerman: Rose & Thorn.

Ranked groups get re-ranked for Season 2, which means you’ll be matched with players closer to your own skill level instead of whoever the old brackets stranded you with.

The Mauler set is the real draw

New equipment, and the design is smarter than most seasonal gear drops. The Mauler set grants levels of rage depending on how many pieces you own. Kratos and his Spartan rage is the right mental reference point.

One logistical note that will annoy you if you learn it the hard way: you need at least a level 2 forge to craft it. Sort that out before you start hoarding materials.

Beyond the wall, and one on one

Season 2 also brings seasonal expeditions beyond the wall, plus a new 1v1 tournament you can run with a friend or with whoever you’ve been quietly resenting in your guild.

All of it is free to play. Which lands differently this particular week, with the price of the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake making a lot of people wince.

Kingsroad has improved month after month, and Rose & Thorn is built for seasoned Targaryens and newcomers both. Unite the seven kingdoms through power, bloodshed and prowess, or at least go absolute ham on someone in the tournament bracket.
