Kojima Productions casts Bill Skarsgård as PHYSINT’s lead

Hideo Kojima has his leading man. Bill Skarsgård is confirmed in the lead role for PHYSINT, revealed Thursday during the XBox Tokyo Game Show 2026 stream.

Kojima used the appearance to update both of Kojima Productions’ in-progress games, and the PHYSINT news came with a visual: a new poster featuring Skarsgård alongside Charlee Fraser.

The casting lands a week after the game’s publishing situation flipped. Sony Interactive Entertainment announced it will no longer publish the action espionage title, and on the same day Microsoft’s Xbox Game Studios announced it is taking over publishing duties.

Beyond the lead, Kojima said the development team is making progress on casting, talent scans and collaborations with outside creators.

OD KNOCK is moving again

The studio’s horror project got the more procedural update. Performance capture and ADR recording have resumed after being paused during the SAG strike, Kojima said, and production is “proceeding on schedule.”

Kojima and Kojima Productions are developing that one alongside Xbox Game Studios too.

The Death Stranding paper trail

Some context for where this studio has been. Death Stranding shipped for PlayStation 4 in November 2019, then arrived on PC via Steam in July 2020 after a delay from June 2020 due to COVID-19.

Death Stranding: Director’s Cut, the PlayStation 5 version, launched in September 2021 and reached PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store in March 2022.

The second game, Death Stranding: On the Beach, launched for PlayStation 5 in June 2025 and hit PC via Steam and Epic Games Store on March 19.

And then there’s everything else

A film adaptation is in the works at Hammerstone Studios, the outfit behind Barbarian and Bill and Ted Face the Music. Michael Sarnoski, who made Pig and A Quiet Place: Day One, is set to write and direct.

Separately, the franchise is inspiring an adult animated feature set in the game’s universe, telling an original story. Hiroshi Miyamoto, whose credits include Eiga Precure Dream Stars! and Hugtto! Precure Futari wa Precure All Stars Memories, is directing at ABC ANIMATION STUDIO under the working title DEATH STRANDING MOSQUITO.

And one more, filed under separate again: an anime series called Death Stranding Isolations, due in 2027 on Disney+.
