You can go to the zoo in GTA 6. Not to rob it or set anything loose. Just to look at the animals up close, like a normal person on a day off.
That’s one of the side activities Rockstar Games officially confirmed in a new magazine feature on Grand Theft Auto VI. We’d already heard about the game’s dynamic weather system and seen a round of new screenshots. This time Rockstar talked about what you’ll do when you’re not doing crimes.
Pool, putt-putt and a jet ski
The list is pleasantly low-key. You can shoot pool, hit the gym, go kayaking or play mini-golf. You can also go scuba diving with specialized gear.
If you’d rather go fast, you can enter street races and off-road races, or take a jet ski out on the water. (So the GTA DNA is still there.)
Rockstar said these are only some of the options. The studio confirmed there are many more activities in the game but isn’t talking about them yet. Anything beyond this list is unannounced for now, so treat any other “confirmed” activity you see floating around with suspicion.
The zoo makes more sense once you see the animal count
This is where the zoo stops looking like a throwaway. Rockstar said GTA 6 will have more than 170 animal species. That includes 60 types of birds and 30 mammals, plus assorted fish and reptiles.
Rockstar said the underwater world will be especially packed, with several species of sharks, whales, rays, turtles, jellyfish and more. That makes the scuba gear a lot more appealing. Somebody at Rockstar clearly wanted you spending time down there.
GTA 6 is set to release on November 19 for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S.
That’s the date for the biggest crime sandbox of the decade. And the thing we’re picturing isn’t a heist. It’s a kayak drifting past a jellyfish.
