Dunk and Egg are coming back this winter. Just not on your TV.

Rittenhouse Archives has confirmed a Winter 2026 release for A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms Season 1, a new trading card set built around the first season of the HBO show. That’s the whole announcement so far. The company hasn’t said what’s in the packs, how many cards are in the base set or who’s signing.

Still, if you’ve been waiting for the show to spread beyond Sunday nights, this is the first sign of it.

The smaller Westeros show is the one with momentum

George R.R. Martin’s world has two major ongoing projects right now. Right now, the one with the momentum is the one about a hedge knight and a bald kid, not the one with the dragons.

The first season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms went over well with fans and critics. It’s sitting at 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.6/10 on IMDb.

The scale is the reason it works. The show drops the politics and scheming that defined Game of Thrones, and longtime fans get something different from what they’ve had for over a decade. With that kind of reception, merch was always coming. Trading cards are just first in line.

What House of the Dragon’s set tells you

Rittenhouse has a recent template you can study. On Oct. 21, the company releases its second series for House of the Dragon, and plenty of those cards carry handwritten signatures from the cast.

The Base Set has 65 cards (three for each episode and 41 Character Cards). The Bonus Set adds Autograph Cards from more than 30 signers and Hand-Drawn Sketch Cards from over 30 artists.

Collectors will be hunting for the rare stuff. That means the ā€œAll Must Chooseā€ Black (CT1) and Green (CT2) Metal Card Case Topper, with one per case. It also means the Emma D’Arcy/Matt Smith Dual Autograph Card and the Rhys Ifans/Olivia Cooke Dual Autograph Card, which turn up once in every eight cases.

It’s safe to assume the Knight of the Seven Kingdoms set will follow a similar format, though the details could change. If Rittenhouse sticks to its usual approach, expect a few chase cards worth tearing through packs for.

Season 2 is done shooting

Cards will have to hold you over for a while. The second season of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms recently wrapped filming, but the only release window so far is early-to-mid 2027.

The show is currently expected to run three seasons. Showrunner Ira Parker has said publicly that he’d like it to go considerably longer than that.

HBO has every reason to listen. If the show keeps pulling in viewers like this, it’d be a shock if the network didn’t try to get as much out of it as it can.

For now, the next piece of Dunk you can buy comes in a foil pack, sometime this winter.
