In Brief:

  • Axie Infinity (official site) said 10,722 Land plots have been activated in Terrariums, where plots earn bAXS every hour as long as they’re powered with Lunium.
  • Rewards come from a fixed bAXS pool for each plot type. Owners split it based on the Atia’s Flame their axies, accessories, evolved parts and Land items generate each hourly Tick.
  • As of Oct. 17, the cheapest Savannah plot on the Axie marketplace was listed at 0.03888 ETH, about $94.64. No Genesis plots were listed for sale.

Axie Infinity AXS $1.05 ▼ -17.1% said 10,722 Land plots have been activated in Terrariums, the passive earning system that replaced Homeland in June. Every one of them is farming bAXS by the hour.

“Lunacians are putting their Land to work and earning bAXS,” Axie Infinity said in a post on X. A second post from the account put it more plainly: “Keep your Terrarium powered with Lunium and your Axies can earn bAXS every hour, even while you’re away.”

Sky Mavis has called the system “lightweight and passive by design” and “gamified staking that respects your time.” Here’s how it works and what it costs to get in.

The basic loop

The process takes four steps. Activate your Land, assign your axies, consume Lunium each Tick, then collect bAXS every hour.

To start, players go to terrariums.axieinfinity.com, connect a wallet, activate a plot and add axies in the Registry. Those axies are assigned to Atia’s Shrine, where they generate Atia’s Flame.

A Tick is the hourly heartbeat of the system. Each hour, a plot burns Lunium, draws Flame from its axies and collects its share of the bAXS pool for its plot type.

Only NFT plots earn. Anyone without Land can claim a free plot to try the system, but it has 10 axie slots and pays no bAXS and no AXP. An owned plot holds up to 30 axies.

There’s a catch for traders. Activated plots and assigned axies are locked, so they can’t be listed, transferred or sold on the App.Axie marketplace while active in Terrariums.

How rewards are split

Each plot type draws from its own fixed bAXS pool. Arctic, for example, carries a monthly pool of 38,893 bAXS, which works out to 54.02 bAXS per Tick shared across all Arctic owners.

A plot’s cut is set by a simple formula: its Flame divided by the total Flame of all mining plots in its category, multiplied by that category’s bAXS pool. More Flame means a bigger slice.

Axie rarity drives base Flame. A normal axie brings five Flame. A Mystic brings 1,000.

The V1.1 update, which co-founder Jeffrey Zirlin confirmed for a July 22 rollout, added more inputs. Evolved parts now add Flame, with rarer pairings worth more. A Shiny axie with an evolved Shiny part adds 10 Flame, while the same axie with an evolved Japanese part adds eight and a normal part adds four. Concentrating evolved parts on one axie applies a ×1.45 multiplier.

Accessories count too, up to five per axie. A Mystic axie with a Mystic accessory gains nine Flame. A normal axie with a Common accessory gains 0.1.

Plots can hold up to eight Land items. Boosts run from 0.05% for Common items to 0.10% for Rare, 0.75% for Epic and 1.5% for Mystic. Items that match a plot’s environment get a ×1.2 multiplier on Savannah, Forest and Arctic plots and ×1.5 on Mystic plots. Genesis and Luna’s Landing plots get ×1.2 to ×1.5 on all items.

Fortune Slips add a 10% Flame buff for 24 hours. The cost scales with plot type: three slips for Savannah, eight for Forest, 22 for Arctic, 48 for Mystic, 960 for Genesis and 2,880 for Luna’s Landing.

Paying for power

Lunium is the fuel. It’s an off-chain resource, not a tradable token, and comes in two types.

Local Lunium is free. It takes about five days to recharge and covers one day of earning at full pace. When it runs out, the plot goes into recovery. A July quality-of-life update let Local Lunium regenerate while players spend Global Lunium.

Global Lunium is bought, works across every plot and has no spending cap. Players can pay with bAXS, AXS, USDC or WETH.

Package prices start small. The Lunium Stash sells 25,000 Lunium for $0.99, the Cache 131,250 for $4.99, the Vault 575,000 for $19.99, the Trove 1,562,500 for $49.99 and the Hoard 3,375,000 for $99.99. A $9.99 Lunium Blessing delivers 11,000 a day for 30 days, or 330,000 total.

Revenue from Lunium sales goes to a Sky Mavis-controlled wallet, which the company said is used to support the Axie economy in ways such as buying axies.

What Land costs right now

The Axie marketplace showed these lowest asking prices on Oct. 17.

Savannah plots started at 0.03888 ETH, about $94.64, across 38 listings. Forest plots started at 0.0575 ETH, about $139.96, also with 38 listings.

The cheapest Arctic plot was listed at roughly 0.0896 ETH, about $218.06, among 46 listings. Mystic plots started at 0.24 ETH, about $584.17, with 27 on sale.

Those are asking prices, not sale prices, and they move with ETH. Buyers who plan to put a plot straight into Terrariums should keep in mind that activation locks it off the market.

Background

Terrariums V1 went live June 17, and Homeland shut down permanently at 3 p.m. Philippine time that day. Plots started empty and spent their first 48 hours recharging. The first earning Tick came June 19 at 07:00 UTC.

Sky Mavis introduced bAXS, or Bonded AXS, in a Feb. 10 update as an in-game token that runs alongside AXS. The same update named Terrariums as Homeland’s replacement.

Sky Mavis has hinted at a V1.2 update that would add a Flame buff for axies carrying several collectible parts at once.

And for anyone hoping to buy into the top tier, there’s no shortcut. Genesis Land is capped at 220 plots, and on Oct. 17 none were listed for sale.
