EverMagic, a 2D pixel-art MMORPG, starts Season 0 on October 20. It’s the game’s first official alpha test season with a real prize pool, and players compete for a share of it. The game is available to download on the Epic Games Store.

The developers have pulled the main rules from their official Alpha Wiki into a single guide covering free-to-play testers and players chasing the top spots. It explains how the season scores you, how gear and guilds work, and what dying costs you.

How the season is scored

Prizes go out based on performance, measured by the total GOLD you generate. GOLD is the in-game currency. The developers seed the starting pool, and it grows as players buy store consumables, specifically the Game Pass and Stamina Potions.

When Season 0 ends, game access is switched off. The total pool is divided by the total GOLD earned across all players, which sets how much $EVA each unit of GOLD is worth. Prizes are sent to the wallet you used to enter the game. GOLD is also burned through in-game sinks to control inflation.

Game Pass, Stamina and free play

The Game Pass gives access to the full game. Its reference price is $30, and it’s the second-largest source of prize pool funding after hunting energy (Stamina).

Players who don’t want to pay can try DEMO mode, which gives 100 Stamina that doesn’t recharge. That’s enough to reach roughly level 10 to 15.

The Academy Pass is a referral system. A player buys the pass in the store and trades it to a “student.” When monsters drop GOLD for that student, a small fee of 10% to 30% goes automatically to the mentor, who collects it from the Mentor NPC in the city.

Refining gear with Heaven Stones

Progression runs through 5 tiers. Refining uses stones dropped by monsters during hunts. The stones also come in 5 tiers, and a stone’s tier has to match the item’s. Refining raises base attributes and lowers the chance of losing the item when you die, by up to 50% at +10.

Items can’t break. A refine can fail and use up the stone, or fail with a penalty and drop the item one refinement level.

Bosses

Every map has one or more bosses plus mini-bosses, all marked on the map with the letter M. A boss respawns 3 hours after it’s killed.

Guilds and the Guild Dungeon

A guild means safety in numbers, plus an XP-gain bonus, passive skills and access to the Guild Dungeon (DG).

  • Guild Points (GP) level a guild up to a maximum of level 5. GP comes from quests and from Map Wars, where you kill members of other guilds or players with no guild.
  • Each guild level adds player slots, up to 150 at level 5.
  • From guild level 2, guilds can spend GOLD to pick 2 of 4 passive options and keep leveling them up to 5. Swapping a passive later means buying it again with no refund, even if it was bought before, and the replaced passive’s stat bonus resets to zero.

The Guild Dungeon opens to guilds from tier 3. It isn’t reserved for one guild: every guild that qualifies can enter, and PvP is on inside. Only bosses and mini-bosses spawn there, drop rates are much higher, and it’s where the strongest accessories in the game can drop. It costs 20 Stamina per minute and runs for 1 hour 30 minutes on a fixed global schedule, twice a day, at 14:00 UTC and 22:00 UTC.

PvP, Infamy and Honor

PvP is toggled in the Actions menu (J). Once you attack, your PvP flag stays on for 5 minutes after your last hit.

  • A player with PvP on who kills someone becomes PK.
  • Killing a player who already has PvP active, without switching your own PvP on, counts as self-defense and doesn’t make you PK.
  • Dying while PK raises your chance of dropping items.
  • Becoming PK adds 5 Infamy and raises the drop penalty.
  • Killing a PK raises your Honor or lowers your Infamy. Every +5 Honor cuts your drop chance.

The risks

The developers say individual results depend on the competition rules and there’s no guarantee of profit. They also say in-game purchases and benefits come with limits and risks, and that the official game interface has the most current values and rules. The game’s token is the $EVA from EverValue Coin.
