NBA Top Shot (official site) has a new pack format for the start of the 2026-27 season. Tip-Off Packs give collectors early access to the first Moments of the year, minted from players’ first games. They run from Opening Night until the Rookie Debut drop on Wednesday, November 11.
Each Tip-Off Pack costs $10, holds 3 Moments and is on sale for one day only. When a featured player makes his mark in his first game, the first handful of that Moment go into that day’s pack before anyone else can get them. Each pack also includes Moments of the featured players and of past rookie classes. The remaining slot is Base Set from last season, since this season’s Base Set hasn’t started minting yet. Once it does, it takes that spot and the packs fill up with new 2026-27 Moments.
Only a small part of each new Moment’s edition goes into the packs. Most of the mint, and every parallel, is held back for the Rookie Debut drop, so a Tip-Off Pack is the only way to own one of these Moments first.
Opening Night: the Jersey Swap pack
The first pack is the Jersey Swap: Opening Night Fresh Threads Pack. It covers three of the biggest jersey changes of the offseason. Paul George played his first game for the Boston Celtics on Tuesday at 3:00 PM ET in Detroit. LeBron James and Jaylen Brown made their debuts for the Philadelphia 76ers against the Knicks at Madison Square Garden at 7:00 PM ET.
All three players get a new Fresh Threads 2026-27 Moment from that night with a mint of 99, and only 5 of each go into this pack. The rest of the /99, plus the Hexwave /25 and Jukebox /10 parallels, arrive in the Rookie Debut drop.
The pack also holds older Moments of the three players:
- a Paul George Holo Icon /99
- Jaylen Brown Hexwave /25s and a Jukebox /10
- a LeBron James So Fresh /250
- a LeBron James Run It Back: Origins Blockchain /99
How the pre-order works
Opening week’s Tip-Off Packs are sold as pre-orders, which NBA Top Shot says is the fastest opening-week Moments have ever reached collections. The Opening Night pack opened for pre-order at 7:00 PM ET, as the Sixers tipped off, and stays open for 24 hours until 7:00 PM ET on Wednesday. Ordering works like any other pack purchase. Each order is one pack, with a limit of 250 orders.
After the pre-order closes and the trade-in auction winners get their packs, the remaining packs are split between two draws:
- Draw 1: half of the remaining packs go to randomly picked collectors, one pack each. The number of orders doesn’t matter, so one order has the same chance as 250. A collector who wins is removed from this draw. If there are more packs than collectors, the extras move to the second draw.
- Draw 2: the other half goes to a draw where every order that hasn’t won is one ticket, so more orders means better odds. Collectors who won in the first draw are still in with their other orders.
Every pack is delivered when the pre-order closes. From next week, Tip-Off Packs switch to first come, first served all the way to the Rookie Debut drop.
Trade-in auctions
Each Tip-Off Pack has its own trade-in auction, which opens at the same time as the pack. A bid is made up of Moments you trade in, ranked by the total average sale price of those Moments. The top 25 bidders each win 2 of that day’s packs.
For Opening Night, any LeBron James, Jaylen Brown or Paul George Moment can be used in a bid. The auction closes Wednesday, October 21 at 2:30 PM ET, and winners receive their packs at the same time as everyone else, when the pre-order closes at 7:00 PM ET. After Opening Night, the auctions accept any NBA Rookie Debut Moment from any series. When a rookie shares a pack with other players, Moments of those players count too.
The 2026 rookies come next
Every Tip-Off Pack after Opening Night is built around the 2026 rookie class. When a featured rookie makes his mark in his first game, the first handful of that Moment go into a Tip-Off Pack. On some days a rookie shares his pack with other stars, whose first Moments of the season come from those games. The format stays the same: $10, 3 Moments, a shot at new Moments from the game, Moments of past rookie classes and a trade-in auction.
The Rookie Debut drop on November 11
The packs lead into the Rookie Debut drop on Wednesday, November 11, which brings the 2026 rookie class to NBA Top Shot. The full mints and parallels land there across Rookie Debut, Season Tip-Off and Fresh Threads, along with Rookie Ultimate 1/1s. Signed Rookie Debut Galactic /5s come from rookies who are partnered Top Shot Athletes, and any partnered Top Shot Athlete in Season Tip-Off or Fresh Threads also signs his Jukebox /10s.
The drop is sold as a Case, a Box and a new Collector Pack. Early access opens Thursday, November 5, and public pre-orders open Tuesday, November 10.
The drop also starts the Season Tip-Off set challenge. Collectors who collect and lock a Moment of every player in Season Tip-Off 2026-27 earn an exclusive Moment of Jalen Brunson and the Knicks raising their first championship banner in 53 years, on Opening Night at the Garden.
