YouTube’s dislike button could be headed for the three-dots menu. A few users say it already has for them, and if that change spreads, it’ll take more effort to tell YouTube you didn’t like a video.
At least two people on X have recently posted screenshots showing the dislike button inside the three-dots submenu under a video, where it no longer sits next to the like button. A user on Reddit posted an image of their video page with no dislike button visible at all.
Still next to the like button for me
On my account, nothing has changed so far. The dislike button is right beside the like button, where it’s been for years.
That placement is what makes it easy to use. Putting it behind a submenu adds a tap and a bit of searching, so fewer people would likely bother.
We don’t know how widely this apparent test may be rolled out. Google didn’t immediately reply to a request for comment.
YouTube has cut back the dislike button before
This would be the third change to the button. In 2021, YouTube hid the public dislike count on videos to help “protect creators from harassment,” though creators can still see their own dislike counts.
Earlier this year, YouTube removed the dislike button from YouTube Shorts and suggested that users try the options in the three-dots menu instead. If you want to see where the main video page could end up, open a Short and look at that menu.
