In Brief:

  • HYTOPIA said existing Worlds will move into its rebooted collection through a 1:1 migration. That replaces its earlier plan for a snapshot on a historical date.
  • The replacement claim stays with the World. Buyers get it, sellers give it up and redeeming a legacy World permanently retires it.
  • The team found incident-linked movements involving 123 Worlds tied to the September Magic Eden / Limit Break exploit. Those cases will go through a separate recovery process.

HYTOPIA has dropped its plan to use a historical snapshot for its Worlds reboot. Every eligible legacy World will now carry a 1:1 migration claim to the new collection, and that claim moves with the NFT when it changes hands.

The team announced the change in a Nov. 7 post from the @hytopiagg account. It said no migration or redemption dates have been set and that “this is not an imminent launch announcement.”

Worlds Migration & New Collection Update – IMPORTANT!
We’re sharing how existing Worlds will carry into the reboot. Migration and redemption dates have not been set, and this is not an imminent launch announcement. The purpose of this update is to give holders, buyers, and

“The purpose of this update is to give holders, buyers, and sellers clarity ahead of time,” the post said.

A reversal on earlier guidance

HYTOPIA had said earlier that any snapshot would use a historical date and that newly acquired Worlds might not qualify. The new post acknowledged the reversal.

“We recognise this differs from our earlier guidance and want to clearly explain what it means,” the post said.

Under the new rules, a holder who owns an eligible, unredeemed World at claim time can receive its replacement in the new collection. The post said relative rarity will be preserved, with the allocation mapped to the legacy World’s rarity and stats.

Selling before redeeming passes the claim to the buyer. “Historical ownership alone does not reserve a separate claim,” the post said. Buyers of eligible, unredeemed Worlds get the future replacement claim, and that includes purchases made after HYTOPIA’s earlier announcements.

Redemption is one-way. The legacy World “is permanently retired from circulation,” and each one carries a single standard migration claim, the post said.

The team said the approach avoids guessing who read earlier announcements or why someone sold. “We are not treating historical sellers as having acted dishonestly,” the post said.

The migration applies to the TOPIA Worlds collection on OpenSea.

Exploit cases handled separately

HYTOPIA said it will handle Worlds caught up in the September Magic Eden / Limit Break exploit under a separate process. Its on-chain review found incident-linked movements involving 123 Worlds.

Those movements include both suspected theft and rescue activity. Because of that, “a zero-price transfer alone will not be treated as proof of an unrecovered loss,” the post said.

Verified thefts won’t count as voluntary sales. The team said verified, unrecovered losses will receive separate recovery allocations from within the planned total supply, “without automatically removing legitimate downstream buyers’ claims.” Rescued or returned Worlds will be tracked to prevent duplicate recovery awards. Disputed Worlds and recovery claims will require review.

The exploit started on Sept. 24, when attackers abused legacy approvals to Limit Break’s Payment Processor V2, which Magic Eden used for trades in 2024. The flaw let attackers create zero-price offers for other people’s NFTs. Magic Eden said on Sept. 25 that a white-hat operation had secured 23,155 NFTs.

Vault and claim window

Replacement Worlds will be created and reserved at launch, HYTOPIA said. Unclaimed replacements will sit in a dedicated migration vault until they’re redeemed.

The team said it can’t sell or redistribute those reserved replacements, and they won’t enter circulation while reserved.

HYTOPIA said it will actively support migration for the first year after redemption opens. Claims stay available indefinitely after that, and missing the first year won’t cause a reserved replacement to expire.

Staked Worlds and legitimate wallet migrations will also be accounted for. Before redemption opens, the team plans to publish full instructions, rules for exceptional cases and a tool to check each World’s eligibility and claim status.

Ownership will be checked at redemption. The new collection’s art, features and differentiation will be shared separately, as will launch and redemption dates.

Back to NFT Worlds

The migration plan follows HYTOPIA’s return to its NFT Worlds roots. The team opened a free public browser alpha of a game called WORLDS at worldsalpha.com on Oct. 17.

That came after ArkDev acknowledged in September that HYTOPIA’s attempt to build a platform for games made by other developers had failed, and proposed a new attempt built around the team’s own game.

HYTOPIA has warned that worlds and saves may be reset during development, including at the move to open beta and again at full release. Early testers could qualify for a whitelist if the team goes ahead with a “future free mint.”

The legacy collection has 10,000 Worlds. In 2023 the team airdropped TOPIA Worlds to NFT Worlds holders, and the collection later moved from Polygon to Arbitrum.

“For now, this update establishes how existing Worlds will carry forward,” the post said.
