In Brief:
- HYTOPIA has opened a public alpha of WORLDS, playable in the browser at worldsalpha.com.
- The team describes WORLDS as “the original NFT Worlds vision, built from the ground up by us,” with “No Minecraft baggage.”
- The project started in 2021 as NFT Worlds WRLD $0.0001397 ▲ +4.2% on Minecraft and became HYTOPIA after Mojang banned blockchain integration in July 2022.
HYTOPIA has launched a public alpha of WORLDS, a new game it says brings back the original NFT Worlds concept. The alpha runs in the browser.
The studio announced it on X early on Oct. 17 and linked the build at worldsalpha.com.
In 2021 we started as NFT Worlds. Then we became HYTOPIA.
It’s time we go back to our roots.
This is WORLDS: the original NFT Worlds vision, built from the ground up by us. No Minecraft baggage.
The public alpha is playable in your browser now. See for yourself
“In 2021 we started as NFT Worlds. Then we became HYTOPIA. It’s time we go back to our roots,” the team wrote. “This is WORLDS: the original NFT Worlds vision, built from the ground up by us. No Minecraft baggage.”
What’s in the alpha
The alpha site is bare. It has one game canvas and no landing page, roadmap or written explainer.
The on-screen controls are standard voxel fare. WASD moves, Space jumps and Shift runs. Left click breaks blocks. Right click places the selected block, opens doors or talks to an expedition guide character.
HYTOPIA didn’t give a timeline for leaving alpha. The post also didn’t say how WORLDS fits with the existing HYTOPIA platform, the TOPIA token or the HYTOPIA Worlds NFT collection.
From Minecraft server to its own engine
NFT Worlds launched in October 2021. It was a web3 project built on top of Minecraft, and players reached the worlds through the game’s servers.
Mojang ended that setup in July 2022 when it banned blockchain integration in Minecraft. The team then built its own engine and platform and rebranded as HYTOPIA.
HYTOPIA raised $3 million from Delphi Digital. Its Worlds NFT collection has 10,000 worlds, which give holders the right to build playable experiences on the platform. The project later moved its chain from Polygon to Arbitrum.
The earlier HYTOPIA alpha
WORLDS isn’t the team’s first browser alpha. HYTOPIA opened its platform alpha in early 2025 and announced it in a March 4, 2025, blog update.
That release let players register, claim usernames, browse games, join regional servers and add friends. Many of the games came from a community game jam. A marketplace, a locker system for in-game assets and token integrations weren’t included at launch.
Since then, HYTOPIA has shown AI tools that let creators build maps, add enemies and scoring, and publish a game to a browser URL in a single session.
The WORLDS announcement ended with a short invitation to players: “The public alpha is playable in your browser now. See for yourself.”
