Abandoned, the PS5 game that never showed up, is back with a new name and a 2027 release date.

A few hours ago its official PlayStation page was quietly updated. Blue Box Game Studios, the Dutch developer that’s become infamous over this, has renamed it ABANDONED PROLOGUE. For a game that’s spent years dodging its own existence, that’s a bold move.

The page also has new key art with a new character on it.

The description is where it gets strange. Abandoned will apparently come in three versions. The first is a realtime experience, described as trailers in real time. The second is the Prologue Chapter, a new prologue sold as a standalone game. The third is the Base Game, which is the main, final game.

So if you’ve been waiting since 2021, you now get to wait for three things.

One fan summed up the internet’s reaction: “GUESS WHO’S BACK?! “ABANDONED” has reappeared on the PSN store under ” ABANDONED PROLOGUE” with an updated release date of 2027 This will be interesting 🤣”

Fair. It will be.

Wait, wasn’t this supposed to be Kojima?

If you missed the first round, here’s the short version. Blue Box announced Abandoned in 2021 as a cinematic first-person survival horror game for PS5. The pitch was big visuals and gameplay built around survival.

Then fans started spotting a string of “coincidences” and decided the whole thing was a front for a secret Hideo Kojima project. Silent Hill, specifically.

Blue Box didn’t exactly calm anyone down. At one point the studio wrote that the game’s real name “starts with S and ends with L.” That poured gasoline on the theory.

Studio head Hasan Kahraman denied being Kojima and denied any connection to him. And in 2022, Kojima himself said he’d never spoken to Kahraman and had nothing to do with the game.

Then the game started to disappear

This is the part that turned a weird rumor into one of the strangest stories in recent gaming history.

The team kept pushing the release date back. It deleted tweets about the game. It promised trailers that never arrived. It even kept rewriting the game’s description.

In 2022, a lengthy investigation spoke with people who’d worked with Kahraman. According to those sources, development was in bad shape, and Kahraman had privately admitted that Abandoned was effectively on pause.

That was the last most people heard of it. Now there’s a store page, a new face on the key art and a date three years after the original announcement went sideways. The name on the box still says Abandoned.
