In Brief:

  • AFK Heroes (official site) has launched mining. Players can toggle a hero off the battlefield and send it into the mine.
  • The mode has three zones of 91 hexes each, plus pickaxes, hauls and locked hexes that the community opens together.
  • Mining follows the October rollout of Pickaxe Crates as boss drops, the first new system since Season 3 reset every hero to level 1.

AFK Heroes has turned on mining in its Solana idle RPG, giving players a second place to send their heroes besides combat.

“MINING IS LIVE in AFK Heroes,” the team posted on X. “Flip one switch and your hero leaves the battlefield for the mine.”

Three zones, 91 hexes each

The mine is split into three zones, and each one holds 91 hexes. The team’s post lists pickaxes and hauls as part of the system, along with “locked hexes the community opens together.”

The announcement didn’t say what hauls pay out, whether mining rewards come in $AFKHERO or how many players it takes to open a locked hex. It also didn’t say whether a hero earns any combat rewards while it’s assigned to the mine.

Pickaxes came first

Mining had been in the works for about a week before it went live. On Oct. 4, the team posted that pickaxes had arrived in the game.

“Bosses now drop Pickaxe Crates. Open them, upgrade, reroll, fuse… and get ready for Mining,” the team said in that post.

That gave players a few days to collect and upgrade gear before the zones opened. Around the same time, AFK Heroes went live on the Solana dApp Store. Seeker owners can claim a one-time welcome pack containing a Mythic gear set, 50 Grand Jug potions, three-hour XP and drop boosts and a Seeker name tag. Each device gets one claim.

Seasons and resets

The game launched in June 2026 as a free browser title. Players connect a Solana wallet, pick a knight, mage or rogue and let a voxel hero fight monsters and collect loot while they’re offline. Zones run from Frozen Spire at level 40 to Singularity Vault at level 90 and up.

Season 2 arrived July 24 with guilds, crafting, tournaments, PvP, server-wide zone bosses and a Powerball feature. Guild membership adds up to 25% extra $AFKHERO earnings.

Season 3 started Aug. 28. It reset every hero to level 1, cleared the leaderboard and put the map back in its untouched state. The team said the Season 3 reward pool is three times larger than the Season 2 pool.

The numbers so far

In a 90-day recap posted Sept. 12, the team said players had earned $74.3K, or 518.7M AFKHERO. Players spent $304K, or 2.12B AFKHERO, over the same period. Marketplace volume reached $85.6K.

$AFKHERO launched on Pump.fun with a total supply of 1 billion tokens. It runs alongside a referral program that the team recently expanded, adding income from what referred friends spend and trade, faster payouts and a 5,000,000 $AFKHERO prize race.

The first week was rough. The team reported more than 10,000 wallets, around 6,000 active players and a peak of about 2,400 online at once. It also listed the problems it ran into that week: security, withdrawals and sybil accounts.
