The Nine Titans have never once shown up in an Attack on Titan game. That changes on 10 December.
Omega Force’s third hack and slash entry got its release date overnight, and it’s arriving with something the previous two games couldn’t offer: the ending. The anime wrapped in November 2023 after a ten-year run, and now the game gets to hand you the culmination of the series directly.
Pre-orders are live.
December is a smart place to hide
Landing on 10 December means Attack on Titan 3 sidesteps Grand Theft Auto VI and the rest of the fall pile-up. No jostling for oxygen against the biggest release on the calendar. Just a clear runway in a quiet month.
That’s not nothing for a franchise entry that’s been waiting since 2019 for its turn.
The ODM problem, finally addressed
Here’s the thing fans have been asking for since the first game in 2016: make the ODM gear feel right.
The omni-directional mobility gear is how the Scouts move. It’s how they fight. It’s the whole grammar of an Attack on Titan action scene, and in the previous installments the combat built around it left a lot to be desired.
The new game’s synopsis makes the pitch plainly: “The omni-directional mobility action has evolved, letting you zip through the air with even greater freedom. Titans now move in more varied and unpredictable ways, posing an even deadlier threat. Together, these upgrades deliver intense battles where you read each Titan’s movements on the fly and take them down with flexible, responsive tactics. You can also turn on simple controls, so even players who aren’t confident with action games can pull off maneuvers worthy of a veteran Scout.”
Koei Tecmo is promising “the most exhilarating and stylish combat the series has ever seen.”
New story, new Titans
The game isn’t just replaying the finale you already watched. It’s packing “brand-new story developments in addition to intense new battles against the Nine Titans, who make their first in-game appearance here.”
So you’re getting more than the show gave you. That’s the whole sell.
How a walled city took over everything
Attack on Titan told the story of the last of humanity living inside a walled city, staying alive by staying behind those walls, with the giant humanoid figures known as Titans waiting on the other side.
The manga became one of the best-selling of all time. The anime adaptation first aired in 2013 and turned the property into one of the most beloved franchises going.
Game developers noticed. Omega Force launched the first hack and slash of the same name in 2016, then a sequel in 2019, both published by Koei Tecmo in Japan and then worldwide, both drawing on events from the manga and the anime.
What you’re actually signing up for
Pre-order bonuses are on the table. And if you’ve been meaning to get good at ODM gear, or you just want to put yourself through the finale again on purpose, the wishlist button is right there.
Third time asking the same question: can a game make flying between rooftops with grappling hooks feel as good as it looks?
Omega Force says yes. December will settle it.
Relive the pain, then. On 10 December, with better gear.
