In the replies, a player asked about the new content. “It is in testing mode, and the game modes are incoming 🫡” the Calamity account said.
Ronin Network also replied. “We cannot wait to play!” the network’s account said. “We hope that players will love the updates! 🙏” Calamity said in response.
What the beta covers
A “Road to the MMO” page on Calamity’s site sets out the scope. The beta opens four biomes and eight zones for levels 1 to 35: the Outskirts, the Forests, the Crypts and the Swamps.
The page lists seven world bosses, with three more in production. Among them are Rotfang, the Rat King, Elder Grizzly, the Necromancer, the Leshen and the Swamp Witch.
The roadmap describes the beta as a two-month test with a level cap of 35. At main release the game is supposed to run from level 1 to 60. Beta progress resets, and the team said there will be no wipes from the main release on.
Shared zones split into layers when they fill up, and each zone regenerates every three to five days with new paths and monster packs. Players who die leave part of their field bag behind but keep their equipped gear. World PvP is optional: players who raise a flag get more XP and loot and can be hunted by other flagged players.
Warrior, Archer and Mage remain the three classes. Each now has a talent tree with three branches and seven tiers, which the site labels a work in progress.
Classic and Echo
Every hero can play in two modes. Classic is the open-world leveling route. Echo skips leveling and equalizes gear, and that’s where Dragon Dominion, Rifts and Arena run.
Dragon Dominion is a 5v5 battleground. Teams fight over altars, and as the match goes on each player drafts Dragon Powers by picking one card out of three. Rifts are session-based risk-to-earn dungeons in Echo mode, according to the roadmap.
Crafting and currencies
Calamity lists six professions, and players pick two. Miner, Herbalist and Hunter are gatherers. Blacksmith, Artisan and Alchemist are crafters.
According to the site, most equipment is crafted and player-made items carry the crafter’s name. Gear can only be bought from other players.
The economy uses three currencies. Gold is set at 100 Gold to 1 USDC. It’s bought onchain and monsters never drop it. Players earn Bronze from monsters, and it stays in the game. $WYRM is the ownership token: the site says game profits fund buybacks and burns, and holders can stake it for perks and vote on community decisions.
The roadmap has six phases. In order they are Calamity Rifts, Dragon Dominion, Talents & Skills, the beta test, the $WYRM TGE ahead of the main release, and the main release. The page itself gives no dates and says each phase ships when it’s ready.
Factory sale
Factory NFTs are paying for the work. The site lists 9,999 Factories at 43 USDC each, with a limit of 243 per wallet. “Funded by the community. No VCs.” the page said. On Oct. 29 the counter showed 4,223 Factories minted.
Each Factory comes with a home in the Factory district, an MMO starter kit for levels 1 to 10 and 1,375 $WYRM at TGE. That figure covers the claim plus the first three months’ staking rewards. Factories become tradable and can be merged after the sell-out or TGE, whichever comes first.
Community mint targets unlock more perks for holders. A spider mount unlocks at 6,000 minted, a Trophy Hall at 8,000 and home rental at 9,000. A sell-out at 9,999 unlocks the holder-only Engineer profession. “Goals that aren’t reached won’t be included in the beta or MMO launch.” the site said.
Calamity used a follow-up post in the thread to promote a Halloween draw. Factories minted before Nov. 30 at 23:59 UTC enter a Main Draw for the Crimson Steed mount, Unholy Grasp and other cosmetics. A separate Holders’ Draw is open to all Factory and Dragon Ring holders and offers 100 Nightmare Steeds and six cosmetics. Winners will be drawn Dec. 7.
Background
Calamity moved to Ronin in April 2025 and has been running an open beta of its 2D action MMORPG. According to the site’s FAQ, the game is on Steam and the Epic Games Store, on its own launcher for Windows and macOS and on Android through Google Play. The team said Calamity is free to play and has a monthly premium planned, but that the game is never locked without it.
Gold, Factories, cosmetics and titles carry over into the MMO, including Halloween prizes. Heroes and items from past seasons and the beta start fresh. A line at the bottom of the roadmap page reads: “Everything on this page is in development and may change.”
