Valheim is finally leaving early access. Five years after it took over everyone’s Discord server, the survival game hits 1.0 on September 9 across PC, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2. If you’d assumed it was already a finished product, you’re not alone.
That’s the strange energy of this month. Half the calendar is games you’ve been waiting years for, and the other half is games arriving out of nowhere to eat your weekend.
Yes, everyone’s still staring down the barrel of GTA 6. September 2026 doesn’t care. It’s here, it’s stacked, and it runs from gothic horror to farming sims with barely a gap between.
Wolverine is the headliner, with an asterisk
Marvel’s Wolverine lands September 15 and follows Logan rejoining Team X after a three-year departure. Mutants are being abducted. Wolverine is on the case. The pitch is action-heavy and bloody, which is the only correct way to make a Wolverine game.
The catch: it’s a PS5 exclusive. No PC port. Millions of people are simply out of luck on this one, and there’s no softening that.
The good news is that the rest of the month is generous to everyone else.
September is when spooky season starts, unofficially
Halloween: The Game arrives September 8 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, and it’s the most on-the-nose way to mark the turn toward October. But it’s not the only option.
Silent Hill: Townfall hits PC and PS5 on September 24. The Blood of Dawnwalker brings its dark fantasy to PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S on September 3. Between the three, getting lost in the atmosphere has rarely been this easy.
And the month opens on horror. Crimson Moon drops September 1 on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, a gothic action RPG stuffed with supernatural powers and brutal missions overrun by demons, vampires and worse.
Onimusha comes back after eight years
Onimusha: Way of the Sword launches September 3 on PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Nintendo Switch 2, reviving the series after an eight-year absence. Samurai fantasy, heavy swordplay, dark atmosphere.

The cozy shelf is deeper than you’d think
Not everything this month wants to scare you. Woodo, the diorama puzzler with artwork you’ll recognize on sight, arrives September 16 across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch and Switch 2.
Dragon Shelter brings a new farming sim to PC on September 24. Hot Wheels Infinite Rush delivers cheerful driving chaos on September 10. Welcome to Elderfield splits the difference on September 10 with cozy horror, which is a genre label that shouldn’t work and absolutely does.
The Switch 2 is having a month
A wave of games is landing on Nintendo’s new hardware. Wo Long: Fallen Dynasty Complete Edition on September 3. Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave on September 17. LEGO Batman Legacy of the Dark Knight on September 18. Dragon Quest 11 S: Echoes of an Elusive Age Switch 2 Edition on September 24. Shinobi: Art of Vengeance the same day.
The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Remastered closes the month on September 29 across PC, PS5, Xbox Series X/S and Switch 2. Yes, you’re going to play it again.
