Chicken Derby
What is Chicken Derby?
Chicken Derby is a collectible chicken-racing game from the Bitlovin team, in which every racer is an NFT with its own stats, cosmetics and hidden preferences. The collection was minted on Ethereum, while race entries and in-game activity run on Polygon to keep transaction costs low. Races are simulations rather than skill-based controls: owners enter a chicken, then watch a twelve-bird field play out live. The project entered open beta in March 2022 and has run races continuously since.
How to play Chicken Derby
Players connect a wallet, acquire at least one chicken, and enter it into a race that suits its profile. Races come in six distances (100m to 200m) across seven terrains — dirt, grass, road, rock, sand, snow and track. Performance is driven by a chicken's Heritage (Serama, Sultan, Lakenvelder and Dorkling, in order of rarity), stock type, Perfection rating, Consistency, and hidden distance and terrain preferences. Each bird also has one of roughly twenty Talents that can fire mid-race, either boosting the holder or hindering rivals. Wearables are cosmetic only and do not affect results. Because several attributes are hidden, the practical way to learn a chicken's strengths is to race it repeatedly.
Chicken Derby tokenomics & earning
Some races are free; paid races require an entry fee, originally in WETH, with the game's later economy using JEWEL as the in-game currency for races, breeding and fusion. Entry fees form the prize pool, split among the top three finishers at 55%, 30% and 15%, with a small cut retained to fund free races and operations. A second token, BAWK, is designed around staking for shares in racing companies and stadiums, entitling holders to a portion of racing fees.
Is Chicken Derby worth playing?
It suits collectors who enjoy breeding, trait analysis and spectator-style outcomes rather than hands-on gameplay. Results depend on randomness alongside stats, and paid entries carry real cost with no guaranteed return, so treat spending accordingly.
Chickens have unique traits that meaningfully affect race performance
Breeding lets players create new and potentially stronger offspring
Blockchain-backed transparency and security for ownership and trading
Available on both Ethereum and Polygon
Progression depends heavily on acquiring and breeding chickens, favoring bigger spenders
Race outcomes tied to traits can limit competitiveness for new players
Multi-chain setup across Ethereum and Polygon adds wallet and bridging friction
Details on rewards, costs, and race mechanics are sparse in the available description
