The pitch is familiar to anyone who has looked at on-chain card games: cards are recorded on-chain, so ownership sits with the wallet rather than a publisher account, and there is a shared virtual space with tournaments and player-to-player trading around it.
What works, at least on paper, is the fit between the format and the technology. Trading-card games already revolve around scarcity, deck building and a secondary market, so putting card ownership on Ethereum is one of the few genuinely coherent uses of the idea rather than a token bolted onto an unrelated genre.
