What is Octo Gaming?

Octo Gaming is a mobile game platform on Solana where players compete in short 1v1 matches for prizes. It is made by BetOnYou, a French company founded in August 2018 by Thomas and Robin, and the project ran under the BetOnYou name before it became Octo Gaming. The app hosts a gallery of hypercasual games, some built in-house and some made with well-known Solana projects, and its official site at octo-gaming.com sums the idea up as betting on yourself for free while playing 1v1 games.

How to play Octo Gaming

You pick a game, choose a stake of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100 or 200 Golds and play the same game as your opponent; the higher score takes the pot. The in-house games include Flappy Octo, where you tap to swim through the ocean while avoiding seaweed and the pace rises with your score, Octo Hoop, where you have ninety seconds to sink as many shots as possible into a moving basket, Octo Ninja, where you slice seafood into sushi for one minute while dodging bombs, and Octo Jump, a gyroscope platformer. Branded games include BONKrun and BONKmaze with Bonk, DeRun to y00topia with DeGods and y00ts, and Clayscape with Claynosaurz. Playing on an emulator gets an account banned permanently.

Golds, prizes and the weekly leaderboard

Golds are a free in-app currency. Besides winning matches, players get them by following Octo on social networks, by placing in the weekly ranking of the most active players, and by watching rewarded video ads when their balance runs out. Golds are exchanged for prizes from partner brands. A separate Game of the Week leaderboard ranks players on their best score in one game, resets every week and rewards the top half or top quarter of players with Golds or OCTOKN, sometimes alongside partner goods, NFTs or XP. Rewards are claimed into a wallet created or imported in the app, and Octo pays the network fees, so no SOL is needed.

OCTOKN and The Octos NFTs

OCTOKN ($OTK) is the platform's Solana SPL token, with a fixed supply of 1.2 billion, and it trades on KuCoin. In the app it buys avatars, raffle tickets and prizes, and it pays entry to $OTK tournaments. The Octos are a collection of 4,444 Solana NFTs, launched in January 2022 and traded on Magic Eden. Holding one gives lifetime premium membership and one power per game, such as a protective shield in Flappy Octo or a super shot in Octo Hoop. Each use drains the NFT's health bar, which is refilled with $OTK.
