Our verdict on RuneHero

RuneHero is a web3 massively multiplayer action RPG set in Herud, a world built around rune magic. In practice it reads as a dungeon crawler rather than a marketplace with a game attached: you pick a hero class, run dungeons and bosses, and collect Runes that reshape a skill tree instead of simply stacking stats. A multi-class roster covers burst damage, sustained DPS and survivability, with a healer-damage hybrid added during beta.

The more distinctive piece is Outland, a PvEvP zone where you hunt monsters and mine rare Aetherite while other players hunt you, and where loot only counts if you extract alive. That extraction pressure, alongside ranked Arenas, clans and battlefields, gives the game a shape beyond token emissions.

Less settled is the chain and economy story. The project built on Immutable and later expanded into the Sei ecosystem, and from the second closed beta onward Arcane Crystal NFTs are required to enter dungeons and claim loot — a purchase standing between a curious player and the content. It remains in closed testing, so what exists is a work in progress, not a finished release.

Suited to ARPG players who enjoy extraction risk and accept an unfinished, NFT-gated beta.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I start playing RuneHero?
Head to the official site at runehero.io and join the current test season u2014 Season 0 is a limited-time pre-test open to all players with no access code needed. The earlier closed beta (CBT1, May 4u201318 2025) was gated behind an access code or activated xRune privileges.
Do I need a crypto wallet or an NFT to play?
You can play without owning any NFT, but you need to link a wallet to receive on-chain rewards, since at season end the team scans your in-game backpack and sends the matching assets to that wallet. Holding an xRune Genesis NFT is optional and grants perks such as early entry to new content, extra inventory slots and reduced marketplace fees.
What is the in-game token and how do players earn?
The earning token is $Soul, and every reward-generating activity consumes Energy, which acts as the economy's throttle. Each player regenerates 1,000 Energy per day, while an equipped Arcane Crystal NFT adds +300 Energy daily (up to five at once) and Dust can charge one equipped crystal each day for a further +700.
Are there other ways to make money in RuneHero?
Life Skills let you gather, craft and trade resources through specialised professions and sell the goods on the player-driven marketplace. Test seasons have also carried cash pools u2014 CBT1 offered a $20,000 base prize pool plus 60% of all player spending, paid out to the top Arena leaderboard players.
Is RuneHero still active and worth playing right now?
Yes, it is in active development: Season 0 is running as a head-start test ahead of CBT2, which grants participants a free CBT2 Battle Pass, and the team has announced full integration with the Sei ecosystem. Bear in mind these are data-wipe test phases, so character progress from a closed beta is erased when the test ends.
