About RuneHero
What is RuneHero?
RuneHero is a multiplayer action RPG set in Herud, a world shaped by rune magic, ancient conflicts and dangerous frontiers. Its whitepaper calls it a Master-to-Earn game, meaning player knowledge, preparation and execution matter more than raw character power. Combat is real-time. The official site profiles three heroes, Morakus, Reks and Aelia, each with its own combat identity, skill list, talents and development paths. The game runs on PC, and the client is downloaded from RuneHero's itch.io page.
How to play
Players build a hero by combining skills, talents, equipment and special effects. Dungeons are solo PvE areas with a randomly generated layout on every run, filled with monsters and bosses that drop equipment and materials, and collecting Runes boosts a hero's abilities. The Arena is PvP and awards Arena Points and seasonal rankings. Outland is a high-risk zone mixing monsters and other players, where you hunt for loot such as Aetherite and resources only count once they are extracted. Life skills let players gather, produce and trade goods, and guilds work toward shared seasonal goals. The game runs in seasons with their own rankings and rewards.
Energy, NFTs and the seasonal prize pool
Dungeons, Outland and life skills cost Energy, which every player recovers each day. An equipped Arcane Crystal NFT adds more daily Energy and can be charged with Arcane Dust, and only one Crystal can be equipped at a time. Crystals can be upgraded or rented to other players through the in-game marketplace. NFTs are optional: the game is free to play, players can mint supported NFTs such as the Hero Badge from materials they collect, and the xRune collection gives holders extra privileges. Each season starts with a base prize pool from the team, and all in-game purchase revenue that season goes into it. At the end of a season 80% of the pool is paid out and 20% seeds the next one. USDT can be deposited to an in-game wallet address on the Sei network.
Where it stands
RuneHero is not yet fully released. Testing has gone through a pre-alpha, an alpha, a first closed beta and a Season 0 pre-test. The second closed beta, CBT2, is a two-week season on game version 0.3.11, with a 2,000 USDT base prize pool and 200 Hero Badges that can be minted for free through gameplay. Open beta testing follows it on the roadmap. An October 2025 update lists full integration with the Sei ecosystem.
Our verdict
RuneHero is a web3 massively multiplayer action RPG set in Herud, a world built around rune magic. In practice it plays as a dungeon crawler: you pick a hero class, run dungeons and bosses, and collect Runes that reshape a skill tree. A multi-class roster covers burst damage, sustained DPS and survivability, with a healer-damage hybrid added during beta.
The more distinctive piece is Outland, a PvEvP zone where you hunt monsters and mine rare Aetherite while other players hunt you, and where loot only counts if you extract alive. Ranked Arenas, clans and battlefields sit alongside that extraction pressure.
The economy is seasonal. Each season starts with a base prize pool from the team, all in-game purchase revenue that season is added to it, and 80% is paid out at the end while 20% seeds the next season. NFTs are optional: Arcane Crystals add daily Energy and can be rented, but you can play and earn without one. A Battle Pass is needed to claim season rewards. It is still in testing, so what exists is a work in progress.
Suited to ARPG players who enjoy extraction risk and accept an unfinished game in seasonal testing.
