Beginner guide

From picking a god to a legal first deck, using the tools on this page.

No login

A short guide to your first Gods Unchained deck. It sticks to what the game's public data confirms: the gods, the deck rules, the formats and how to read the win rate numbers on this site. It does not rank strategies or promise results.

1. The gods

There are six gods: Light, Death, Nature, War, Magic and Deception. Each has its own cards, and a set of neutral cards belongs to none of them. In most formats a deck holds one god plus neutral cards. Compare the pools on the gods page, or browse a god's cards in the card database.

2. The deck rules

A deck has 30 cards. In the main formats (Standard and Block Constructed) you may play at most two copies of a card and one legendary card, and cards from one god plus neutral. Pauper allows only common cards, and Singleton allows one copy of each card. The formats page lists every rule.

3. Pick a format

Standard bans the older sets, so a newer player has fewer cards to learn. The sets page shows which sets Standard and Block Constructed allow. The play modes (Ranked, Casual, Conquest, Sealed) are explained on the formats page too; Casual is described by the game as play without worrying about your rank.

4. Build and check

Open the deck builder, pick a format and add cards. The rules check tells you what is wrong, and the mana curve shows how many cards you can play on each turn's budget. A deck with many expensive cards and few cheap ones is slow to start; a curve shows that at a glance. The builder does not know which cards you own.

5. Read the numbers honestly

The god win rates and card win rates come from a sample of ranked games, with the sample size and dates printed beside them. A card's win rate is the win rate of the decks that played it; strong players and strong decks lift it. Treat the numbers as a starting clue and try a deck yourself in Casual.

FAQ

How many cards are in a deck?

Thirty. In most formats at most two copies of a card and one legendary.

Which god should a beginner pick?

We do not rank gods for beginners. Look at the god pools, try a few in Casual and compare with the win rate sample, which is only a hint.

Do I have to own the cards to use the builder?

No. The builder checks rules only. It does not know which cards you own.
