In Brief:
- Illuvium (official site) co-founder Kieran Warwick announced on Aug. 21 that cost reductions have extended the studio’s operating runway by over 12 months.
- The remaining workforce is almost exclusively dedicated to their MMORPG, with most employees having over three years of tenure.
- Illuvium plans to launch its MMO in December 2026, while also preparing to release several smaller titles in 2026.
Illuvium extends operating runway
Illuvium has secured over a year of additional operating runway following six months of cost reductions and wage cuts, Kieran Warwick said on Aug. 21. The studio’s workforce is now concentrated on their MMO project, which has its sights set on a December 2026 launch.
Warwick did not reveal the current cash balance or monthly burn rate. The last published figure, in December 2024, indicated a monthly burn of approximately $900,000 after salary adjustments. Despite speculation around a total funding of $132 million, reported cumulative funding in 2024 was around $60 million, and Illuvium’s NFT land sales reached $72 million in 2022. However, these figures combined customer land-sale proceeds with reported funding, which are distinct categories.
Discussions about operational costs and restructuring have been placed under nondisclosure agreements, as seen in recent governance disclosures. Meeting minutes from July lack specific financial details, complicating the understanding of Illuvium’s status.
Focus on the MMO and upcoming releases
Recent governance documentation from February outlined the MMO’s scope reduction, emphasizing the reuse of existing assets and planned player-versus-player features for post-launch. Warwick noted that Illuvium will also release smaller titles in 2026, including Beyond Set 1’s final Celebrations collection, Primal Tactica, and Loadout.
Primal Tactica, developed by an external studio under Illuvium’s intellectual property license, is set to be showcased at Steam Next Fest in October. It will be available for early access later in the fourth quarter. Warwick mentioned that Loadout will distribute tokens to the Illuvium staking contract to incentivize ILV and ILV-ETH staking, though a launch date has yet to be announced.
Overall, Illuvium has repositioned itself with a sharper focus on its MMO while cautiously managing resources—a strategy that aims to stabilize the studio amid ongoing funding complexities.
