Moonfrost launches on Steam Early Access

Moonfrost, the cozy life sim RPG from Oxalis Games, is now available in Early Access on Steam. The game went live at 6 PM BST on October 12, 2026, with a price point of $14.99, reduced to $13.49 through a launch discount valid until October 26.

The Early Access build covers approximately 50% of the main storyline. Players can explore the Temple up to Level 19 and encounter 11 NPCs, whose relationships can develop to Level 3. Village rebuilding is central to the gameplay; players engage in clearing debris and restoring their community.

Game functionalities and accessibility

Moonfrost runs on Windows PC, featuring full controller support, Steam Cloud saves, and Family Sharing options. It includes a new map, task tracking, and additional crafting puzzles. The recent update also introduced Indonesian as a playable language, alongside English, Spanish, Chinese, and Japanese, though English is the only one offering full audio support.

Gina Nelson of Oxalis Games said, “Moonfrost has always been about people coming together to fix something broken.”

Demo transitions to Early Access

An updated demo launched at 1 PM BST on the same day, allowing players to carry over progress to Early Access. However, saves from previous demos are not compatible with the new version due to significant changes.

Growing interest before launch

Interest for Moonfrost surged ahead of its release, with the game surpassing 50,000 wishlists on Steam six days prior. The launch announcement came on September 29.

Game setting and mechanics

Set 100 years after a second moon appeared, Moonfrost presents players as Frost Hunters, tasked with rebuilding their world using Moonfrost shards. The game combines elements of daily life, such as farming and crafting, with design features that allow players to build and decorate homes.

Transition from web3 to premium title

Initially conceived as a web3 game, Oxalis Games raised a $4.5 million seed round, attracting investors like Blocore, Supercell, and Animoca Brands. However, the studio shifted its strategy in November 2025, opting to launch on Steam and remove crypto elements to streamline its audience focus.

Frost Arcade development

Players from the previous web3 format were redirected to Frost Arcade, a distinct platform for faster, session-based games. Under the leadership of Ric Moore, Frost Arcade will feature multiplayer options and competitive events. Early supporters will retain their assets, with a framework for rewards still under discussion.

Ric Moore indicated that a “Risk to Earn” model could be implemented, stating, “Risk-to-Earn solves this. Poker is R2E.”

Moonfrost is currently ranked #47 on PlayToEarn with a score of 849.
