In Brief:
- Play Solana is marketing the Pudgy Penguins limited edition of its PSG1 handheld, priced at $349 against $329 for the standard model.
- Every PSG1 sale triggers a PENGU buy-and-burn, a commitment the company attached to the collaboration when pre-orders opened July 30, 2025.
- PSG1 buyers across Wave 0, Wave 1 and Wave 2 sit inside the PLAY airdrop, which reserved 5% of supply for them.
Play Solana is pushing the Pudgy Penguins edition of its PSG1 handheld again, calling it a limited edition and telling followers to “grab yours” in a post on X. The device sells for $349, $20 above the standard PSG1.
The terms behind it haven’t moved. “For every PSG1 sale we will buy and burn $PENGU,” Play Solana said when the collaboration went live. Each unit sold pulls PENGU off the market.

Pudgy Penguins amplified the same pre-order through its own account.
What the hardware is
Apart from the artwork, the Pudgy unit is the standard PSG1. It runs a Rockchip RK3588S octa-core ARM CPU with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and 128GB of eMMC flash storage.
The screen is a 3.92-inch OLED at 1240 x 1080 with capacitive multitouch, set in a vertical, retro-styled body. WiFi 6.0 and Bluetooth 5.4 handle connectivity.
The wallet sits on the device rather than beside it, secured by SvalGuard, Play Solana’s proprietary system, with a capacitive fingerprint sensor mounted on the back. The Pudgy version carries a Pudgy Penguin image on the rear shell.
Emulation is part of the sell. The PSG1 runs PS2, GameCube and Dreamcast titles alongside Solana games, and Play Solana positions it as a distribution point for its own gaming library.
Where the token side lands
Buyers of the special editions are folded into the PLAY distribution. Play Solana set aside 5% of the allocation for PSG1 Wave 0, Wave 1 and Wave 2 buyers, with a further 16% routed through XP-based rewards including the Early Community Drop and other campaigns.
Wave 0 and Wave 1 holders were already secured, the company said, with Wave 2 left open as the last entry into the earliest generation of players recognized in the distribution. Buyers across those waves holding a PSG1 Genesis Soulbound NFT were also eligible for the Community Pre-sale.
Wave 2 isn’t structured as a pre-order. It’s a direct purchase against available stock, with availability varying by region, inventory and shipping eligibility at checkout.
How it got here
Play Solana announced the PSG1 in September 2024 as the first handheld console built for Solana games. The shipping date came on Aug. 26, 2025, and the console launched Oct. 6, 2025 at $329, with Wave 2 orders shipping the same day.
The Pudgy collaboration arrived ahead of that, with pre-orders opening July 30, 2025. It landed just over a month after the Pudgy Penguins team launched Pengu Clash (official site), a skill-based game built on The Open Network.
“Play-to-win, in essence, is a skill-based game,” said Luca Netz, CEO of Pudgy Penguins, describing that title as users wagering against one another rather than earning through play. Netz said building on TON was meant to reach Telegram’s untapped audience.
The PSG1 sits at the center of what Play Solana calls the SuperHUB, a modular network tying together games, wallets, identity, IP and rewards. Play Solana: Origins handles onboarding through gameplay, teaching staking, swaps and NFTs, while Play<Gate> is the publishing path for developers.
The PLAY token launch was scheduled for Oct. 13. The ecosystem then moved from the Genesis XP Season into Season 1, which went live Nov. 28 with a quest lineup on PlayDex covering social missions, staking and gameplay, some of it restricted to PSG1 console and NFT holders.
Pudgy isn’t the only partner getting a shell. Play Solana has run BONK and JUP themed editions, and has worked with MonkeDAO. The BONK edition carries the same $349 price and the same structure: buy the hardware, burn the token.
