A dead cop wakes up inside a machine. That’s the pitch Prime Video is running with, and almost 40 years after Paul Verhoeven first put a cyborg on the streets of Detroit, RoboCop is heading to television.

The new series runs eight episodes and comes from Blumhouse and Atomic Monster, the horror shops that don’t usually deal in badge-wearing metal men. That combination alone is worth a raised eyebrow.

Peter Ocko is the one steering it. If you know his name, it’s probably from Lodge 49 or Pushing Daisies, and he’s taking on creator, writer and executive producer duties here.

He’s not doing it alone. James Wan is attached, and so is Ed Neumeier, who co-created RoboCop in the first place. Getting an original architect back in the room isn’t nothing.

Here’s the part that stands out. The official description centers on a company that builds a police cyborg carrying the transferred consciousness of a dead officer. But it doesn’t say Alex Murphy. It doesn’t say Omni Consumer Products.

You can read that a few ways. Maybe the names are coming and Prime Video is holding them back. Maybe this version wants room to be its own thing without the weight of every callback fans expect.

Wan, for his part, said the new take will keep the spirit of the original while looking at present-day questions around technology, identity and corporate power. Which, if you've seen the 1987 film, is the whole point of RoboCop dressed in 2026 clothes.

No cast. No release window. Just a premise that sounds exactly like the movie and a description that won’t quite admit it. That gap is the most interesting thing about this announcement, and for now, it’s the thing nobody’s explaining.
