The Wayans brothers waited 26 years to come back, and one of the first things they did was poke fun at Christopher Nolan.
Scary Movie 6 already had its theatrical run. Today, July 21, it lands on digital platforms to rent or buy. And to mark the occasion, the Wayans dropped two fresh posters that go after two of the season’s biggest movies.
One targets Obsession, which cleaned up in theaters and at the box office. The other targets The Odyssey, the Christopher Nolan film that opened last week.
The posters are the whole bit
If you’ve followed this franchise, you know the drill. Scary Movie has a long habit of putting out posters that mock whatever’s big at the moment.
IT got the treatment. So did Weapons. And Get Out. The parody art is practically its own marketing genre at this point.
These two are just the latest. Take a look.
The plot, or what passes for one
Here’s the pitch. Twenty-six years after escaping a suspiciously familiar masked killer (“Ghostface”), the Core Four are back in the crosshairs, and no horror movie is safe.
Marlon Wayans (“Shorty”), Shawn Wayans (“Ray”), Anna Faris (“Cindy”) and Regina Hall (“Brenda”) reunite for the new Scary Movie. Familiar faces return, and new ones show up to wreck reboots, remakes, requels, prequels, sequels, spin-offs, elevated horror, origin stories, anything with the word “legacy” in it, and every “final chapter” that definitely isn’t final.
Nothing is sacred. No cliché survives. Every boundary gets crossed.
The money’s already in
The theatrical run pulled $230 million. Now it moves to digital, where you can rent it or own it starting today.
The Wayans return to cancel cancel culture.
