In Brief:
- Sunflower Land (official site) players can spend Ascension Shards to rank skills up to Level 3 across all 12 rebalanced skill trees, Ronin said in a post pointing players back to the game.
- Ranks 2 and 3 each cost shards plus extra skill points, and shards drop only from temporary Ascension Crystal nodes that burn a Gold Pickaxe to mine.
- The system shipped inside Chapter 15, which closes Nov. 2 and wipes its content permanently when the window ends.
Sunflower Land’s skill trees now carry three ranks apiece, and the top rank costs Ascension Shards.
Ronin promoted the mechanic this week. “Use Ascension Shards to rank your skills up to Level 3 across all 12 rebalanced skill trees,” the network said in a post linking to the game.

How the ranks work
Rank 1 matches what taking a skill did under the old system. Ranks 2 and 3 upgrade the effect, and each one charges Ascension Shards on top of additional skill points. Some Rank 2 and Rank 3 upgrades stay locked until the player unlocks higher tiers in the same tree.
Not every skill got ranks. Ones that wouldn’t gain anything from an upgrade, including Insta-Chop and Sprout Surge, have none.
Power Skills take cooldown reductions instead, some as steep as half. The Power Skill that instantly harvests all growing crops drops from a three-day cooldown to 2.5 days at the next rank and two days after that. The skill that instantly grows all trees carries a 24-hour cooldown.
Where the shards come from
Ascension Shards are generated exclusively through temporary resource nodes called Ascension Crystals. The crystal and the shard are separate resources. Mining a crystal consumes a Gold Pickaxe and deposits shards into inventory.
Existing players received shards at rollout based on their island progression, so nobody lost credit for expansions they’d already finished. Farmers already maxed out on Volcano collect their missed shards when they ascend the island to Swamp and upgrade the expansion. A2 ascensions were locked until the chapter’s second month to cut down the beta-tester advantage.
Node generation is capped. Before the first ascension, a farm produces one node each on the Spring, Desert and Volcano upgrades, three total. Each ascension after that adds one Upgrade Node plus expansion nodes, and from A10 onward generation holds at one Upgrade Node and 12 Expansion Nodes indefinitely. Islands open at 30 unlocked tiles and stretch to 42.
Diminishing returns by design
The design document for the system, filed in the project’s GitHub repo as proposal #7343, set Green Thumb at 5% reduced plot crop growth time at Rank I, 7.5% at Rank II and 8.5% at Rank III. The proposal described the flattening curve as a deliberate cost guardrail.
Players in the thread weren’t sold. One commenter ran the math: one skill point buys 5%, while two more skill points and two Ascension Shards add only another 3.5%.
The proposal also said every skill is eligible for review but not all of them will get ascension ranks. Skills that produce unhealthy economic outcomes may get alternative bonuses or be left out entirely. To keep Grinx’s Hammer from dominating, the team planned slightly weaker alternate boosts that let other players catch up. Those won’t stack with the Hammer.
The chapter clock
Chapter 15, The Ascension Age, opened Aug. 3 and runs until Nov. 2. It carries a 60-tier reward track worth 60,000 points and 31 exclusive chapter NFTs. When the three-month window shuts, the content is wiped permanently.
Swamp Islands, the Shiny Feather currency and new wildlife and mutants landed in the same update. More than 40,000 players joined in the opening stretch. Ascending to Swamp requires Bumpkin level 150.
The ascension track has its critics. Players in the repo discussion pointed out that expansions 26 through 30 call for 150 Obsidian in total, and weekly market limits stretch that to seven months at minimum, potentially parking some farmers on the old island waiting for market resets.
Background
FLOWER, the game’s fixed-supply ERC-20, trades on Katana. Roughly 20% of active users are on Ronin. The token launched on Base in April 2025, swapping in for SFL at 1:1 without costing players progress.
Anyone who mis-spends points chasing a Level 3 skill can reset the tree once every 180 days. Getting a reset sooner costs 200 gems.
