November 19 is holding. Take-Two, the company that owns Rockstar Games, used its latest earnings report to confirm the Grand Theft Auto 6 release date hasn’t budged, and to frame the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look as fuel for the fire.
That’s the headline for anyone who’s been bracing for another delay. There isn’t one. Not today, anyway.
The numbers behind the confidence
Take-Two called its first quarter of the 2027 financial year “excellent,” and said the Grand Theft Auto series had “once again exceeded expectations.” GTA 5 has now sold more than 230 million copies worldwide. The series grew 3% overall on microtransactions.
To put 230 million in context: GTA 5 is the second best-selling video game ever made. The only thing ahead of it is Minecraft, at 400 million.
Net bookings for the quarter came in at $1.39 billion, edging past the company’s own forecast of $1.32 billion to $1.37 billion.
Preorders are big. Take-Two won’t say how big.
“Global excitement for the launch of Grand Theft Auto 6 continues to build, with the title having an exceptional start to preorders,” Take-Two said in its financial statement.
Notice what’s missing there. No preorder figure. No revenue number attached to it. Just “exceptional.”
Recent analysis suggests GTA 6 generated approximately $180 million in digital preorders across the U.S. and the five biggest European markets during the last week of June alone. Preorders opened at midnight on June 25.
Netflix gets six hours of exclusivity
The next official look at the game arrives August 27 as Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look, exclusive to Netflix for six hours before it goes wider. Take-Two touched on it briefly, but pointedly.
“With Rockstar Games’ recent announcement of Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look coming on August 27th, we believe that consumers’ passion and anticipation for the next evolution of this iconic series will grow further leading up to the title’s November 19th release,” Take-Two said.
Read that as a company saying the marketing runway is intact and on schedule.
NBA 2K is quietly carrying a lot of weight
While everyone stares at Rockstar, the other big contributor to the quarter was NBA 2K, which grew 7% in Recurrent Consumer Spending, which is the polite term for microtransactions.
Take-Two said NBA 2K26’s performance was “outstanding and concluded a record year for the franchise.” The game has sold-in over 12 million units to date, up 9% on NBA 2K25.
“The achievements of this year’s iteration of the series are a testament to Visual Concepts’ ability continually to deliver new, innovative ways for fans to stay engaged, and our live-service execution remains a cornerstone of NBA 2K’s sustained success,” Take-Two said. NBA 2K27 arrives this September.
The company also credited 2K’s ongoing support of Borderlands 4, Sid Meier’s Civilization VII and WWE 2K26 “with an array of new offerings, which enhanced player engagement and sentiment.” No firm numbers attached to any of those.
The year Take-Two thinks changes everything
Take-Two believes the current financial year will be an “inflection point” for the company, “one that will write an exciting new chapter in our history and provide the foundation for new levels of success and the creation of groundbreaking entertainment experiences.”
It stuck with its net bookings forecast for the year of $8 billion to $8.2 billion, roughly 20% growth over FY26 at the midpoint. GTA 6 is expected to drive most of that.
The projected revenue split by label: about 37% Rockstar Games, 34% Zynga and 29% 2K.
Everything else on the slate is undated. PGA Tour 2K27, WWE 2K27, Judas, Project Ethos and the next BioShock all sit there without a release window, waiting for the one game that’s carrying the whole calendar.
