Take-Two Subpoenas Microsoft and Discord in Federal Court Hunt for the GTA 6 Leaker

Take-Two isn’t waiting this one out. The Rockstar Games parent company has filed multiple subpoenas in federal court demanding information from Microsoft and Discord as it tries to unmask whoever has been dumping GTA 6 gameplay footage onto the internet all week.

The filings landed yesterday, August 20, in the New York Southern District Court under the Digital Millennium Copyright Act. The target: an account called ‘CyberLeek,’ which is allegedly behind the leaks.

What Take-Two is asking for is unusually wide

The subpoena requests identifying information tied to all user accounts that were members of a number of Discord servers. Not the suspect’s account. Everyone in the room.

It also demands all internal Microsoft business and investigative records connected to Microsoft’s own internal investigation of ‘CyberLeek.’ And it calls for any GTA, Rockstar or CyberLeek content sitting in those Discord members’ OneDrive accounts.

One of the servers named in the filing belongs to DarkViperAU, the online handle of Australian GTA content creator Matthew “Matt” Judge.

The legal language, in Take-Two’s own words

“The copyrighted material includes but is not limited to audio visual content, artwork, images, dialogue, or other creative elements,” the filing reads. “Take-Two, through its counsel of record, has submitted a sworn declaration confirming that the purpose for which the DMCA subpoena is sought is to obtain the identity of an alleged infringer or infringers, and that such information will only be used for the purpose of protecting Take-Two’s rights.”

The leaker hasn’t stopped

Here’s the part that makes the subpoenas feel less like a formality and more like a chase. The leaks kept coming after the filing.

Today, August 21, marks a fourth consecutive day of GTA 6 leaks after another gameplay video hit the internet. This one shows supercar gameplay. Like the videos before it, it advertises a memecoin, which one GTA fan recently traced to a Seychelles-based cryptocurrency exchange that might be used to identify the leaker.

The watermark on the newest clip reads: “HIGHER MARKET CAP = MORE LEEKS.”

That’s the sixth apparent GTA 6 gameplay video to leak this week. Neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has said a word publicly about any of it. Both have been asked for comment.

The timing is brutal

All of this is happening a week before Grand Theft Auto 6: An Extended Look, a timed Netflix exclusive due Thursday, August 27. It stays on Netflix for six hours before rolling out to other platforms including YouTube.

So Rockstar has a carefully staged reveal on the calendar, and someone is out there posting supercar footage with a memecoin ad stamped across it, daring the company to catch them.
