What is Matchday?
Matchday is a free mobile football card game in which players open packs, pull cards of real footballers and build a squad from them. The official site at matchday.com describes it as a game about collecting real football player cards and building your squad. On the Apple App Store the game is sold by Pitch Labs Inc. as "Matchday: Soccer Card Game", released on 3 June 2026, and the Android version is published on Google Play under the developer name Matchday.
How to play
The core loop has three steps: open packs, build a starting XI from the cards you pull, then upgrade your players and climb the leagues match by match. Coins and Gems pay for progress, and Stamina paces how much you can play at once. Matches play out as fast highlights, and the key moments are played by hand: you time the shot, win the duel or finish in stoppage time. Live events, weekly competitions and mini-games rotate through each season.
Recent updates added more social modes. In Locker Raid you visit a rival's stadium and carry off the Fans they left unprotected, and in Fan Takeover you send your travelling support to take over a rival stadium until its owner wins it back. Friends and Feed adds a friends leaderboard and a timeline, Team of the Season brings limited-time cards of the season's standout players, and Crew Trading lets you swap duplicates with your crew and ask for the exact player you need. Cards can also be fused to power them up faster.
Platforms and access
Matchday is free on iPhone and iPad through the App Store, rated 4+, and on Android through Google Play. In the US App Store it held a 4.5 rating in early November 2026, and players can link their account to Discord to join the Matchday community. Spending is optional and goes on in-game currencies and packs.
