The Beacon Character
The Beacon NFTsF2P action roguelite RPG, in development. Venture into dungeons, defeat evils & expand the Beacon's light!
The Beacon is a free-to-play fantasy action roguelite RPG developed by Skillcap Studio and built within the Treasure ecosystem on Arbitrum One. Its handmade pixel-art world is framed by an encroaching darkness called Umbra, held back by the light of the Beacon itself; players begin in Dawnport, a frontier settlement founded away from the capital of Altaris. The core loop is real-time dungeon crawling: each run generates a fresh layout, and combat rewards timing and reflexes while players collect gear, upgrades and loot to shape their build.
The game runs in the browser and as a desktop client for Windows and macOS distributed through the Epic Games Store, where it is listed as an Early Access title still under active development. Accounts can be created with a Web3 wallet or with Google, Epic, Discord or Ronin Waypoint, so no wallet is required to start. Three modes are supported: solo PvE dungeon runs, co-op parties with friends, and an MMO-style town hub for socialising. Outside of dungeons, players customise a home using in-game items and NFTs, including assets imported from other collections. The Beacon now runs on a seasonal model, with "Goblin's Gambit" as its first live season and pre-registration handled on the official site.
Blockchain features are optional rather than mandatory. Collectibles span Arbitrum, ZKsync and Ronin, and the official site highlights two main categories: characters, which grant access to special events and unique in-game NFT rewards, and pets, which provide quality-of-life benefits and yield boosts. There is no in-house marketplace, so secondary trading happens on external platforms. Glint serves as a purchasable in-game currency, and a referral system grants new players a starting bonus. A dedicated game token has been referenced on the project's roadmap; players should confirm its current status through official channels before assuming any earning mechanics.
Entry is free and playable without a wallet, which lowers the barrier compared with NFT-gated titles. It suits players who enjoy pixel-art roguelites and co-op dungeon crawling. As an Early Access game, content, systems and rewards may change significantly, and progression rewards are largely cosmetic and account-based rather than guaranteed income.
The Beacon is a pixel-art action roguelite from Skillcap Studio, built inside the Treasure ecosystem on Arbitrum One. The framing is a frontier town, Dawnport, founded away from the capital of Altaris while an encroaching darkness called Umbra presses in. The game underneath that fiction is real-time dungeon crawling: each run generates a fresh layout, combat rewards timing and reflexes, and loot and upgrades gradually shape a build.
The on-ramp is the strongest thing about it. The Beacon runs in a browser and as a Windows and macOS client, and accounts can be made with Google, Discord or Ronin Waypoint rather than a wallet, so the crypto layer is opt-in instead of a gate. Ownership sits beside the loop rather than inside it — character collectibles unlock events and rewards, pets grant quality-of-life perks and yield boosts, and a housing system accepts assets imported from other collections.
The weaknesses are structural. There is no in-house marketplace, so secondary trading scatters across third-party venues; a dedicated game token appears on the roadmap rather than in the economy; and Early Access plus a seasonal model means systems can be rewritten between seasons. Best suited to players who want a co-op roguelite first and an asset ledger a distant second.
