Chess, but every match you play could gut your whole run. That’s the pitch for The Ouroboros King, and right now it costs you nothing.
Epic Games is handing out another free title through the Epic Games Store Mobile, and this one’s aimed squarely at the people who like their games to make them think. From now until next Thursday, you can download The Ouroboros King on Android and iOS without paying a cent.
What you’re actually getting
It’s a turn-based strategy game that takes classic chess and threads it through the roguelike deckbuilder format. If you’ve played Slay the Spire, you already know the shape of this: run-based, built around smart choices, punishing when you get greedy.
So it’s chess with the bones of a roguelike. The strategy games crowd tends to eat that combination up.
People already like it
The game comes from Oriol Cosp Games, and players have taken to it. On other platforms, Steam included, it’s pulled a Very Positive rating from the community.
That’s worth flagging because free giveaways don’t always come with a track record. This one does.
The developer laid it out plainly: “Checkmate The Ouroboros King is available for FREE until July 23. Available for free on Android worldwide and iOS in select countries.”
How to grab it
Open the Epic Games Store Mobile app on your phone, head to the “Free Games” category, and find and install the game. That’s the whole process.
Don’t have the app yet? You’ll need to download Epic Games Store Mobile first, then follow the same steps.
The clock runs out July 23. If you like games that ask you to actually plan a few moves ahead, this is a low-risk way to test whether chess and roguelikes belong together.
