In Brief:
- Pudgy Penguins put its Pengu plush line on shelves at more than 1,800 Target stores across the U.S., the brand’s widest retail rollout yet.
- The move pushes the $PENGU IP in front of millions of shoppers, extending a licensing model that pays NFT holders 5% of net revenue on products featuring their penguins.
- PENGU rose 4.6% over 24 hours to a weekly high of $0.0065, though traders want tokenomics tied to physical sales before pricing the deal as a catalyst.
Pudgy Penguins put its Pengu plush toys on shelves at more than 1,800 Target stores nationwide, the brand’s biggest retail push to date.
The project announced the launch July 19, framing it as its first mainstream introduction at that scale. “Today, for the first time, Pengu has been officially introduced to millions of new people in retail,” Pudgy Penguins said. “We’re proud to announce that Pengu is now available on all Target shelves across the USA with the launch of our new plushie line.”

Token ticks up
PENGU climbed 4.6% on the day of the news, setting a new weekly high at $0.0065. The price stayed below its monthly high.
Traders held back. Many want a direct link between physical sales and token economics, such as revenue sharing, buybacks or staking, before treating retail wins as a price driver. Without those mechanisms, the plush rollout reads more as brand-building than an immediate catalyst.
A years-long retail push
The Target deal extends a strategy Pudgy Penguins has run since 2023, when its Pudgy Toys entered more than 2,000 Walmart stores. CEO Luca Netz said in May 2024 that the brand had sold more than 1 million toys over the preceding 12 months.
The plush launch follows the debut of the Vibes Series 3 trading cards at Target, which brought total cards in circulation to 15 million and added a crossover with the Moonbirds collection.
Pudgy Penguins’ licensing terms route 5% of net revenue from physical products back to the NFT holder whose penguin appears on the item. The Ethereum-based collection has spent years converting its art into a consumer brand spanning toys, cards and licensing.
Each toy also ties into the project’s game ecosystem. Buyers scan a QR code to claim digital traits and content in Pudgy World, the browser game built on zkSync Era, a bridge meant to walk mass-market shoppers toward on-chain products without an exchange account.
The rollout tests whether a crypto-native character can hold shelf space against traditional toy lines rather than living in limited web3 drops. At Target, Pax, Pengu and Polly are stocked next to household names like Mickey Mouse and Bluey.
