Kevin Feige walked into a huge room, sat down with his team and started planning movies for the next 17 years. That’s not a metaphor. That’s the actual thing that happened.
The Marvel Studios boss says the MCU has a roadmap stretching all the way to 2042, a detail he dropped during a recent interview in China. Yes, you read that right.
Secret Wars isn’t the reset you think it is
Feige has been clear about one thing: Avengers: Secret Wars won’t reboot the universe. He calls it a launch point instead, the start of whatever comes next.
He said Endgame really was the end. Secret Wars is the new beginning. Two different jobs, two different films, and he doesn’t want anyone confusing them.
The X-Men are the whole plan now
After Secret Wars, the mutants take over. Feige framed the new X-Men as the core the entire universe gets built around, and he’s not talking about one clawed Canadian.
“At the core of everything I’ve told you about, you’ll find the X-MEN. Wolverine is an excellent character and we managed to pair him with Deadpool, but the X-MEN aren’t just Wolverine, they’re much more. Essentially, they make up an entire universe, a multi-layered saga. We’re working right now on a big part of the X-MEN. A little while ago we were in a huge room holding a meeting about the future. We’re planning movies through 2042… Whether we’ll actually make it to 2042, we don’t know, but that’s how we approach and plan the enormous volume of stories that exist in the comics. We’re constantly changing and evolving, but having a general direction helps us move forward more,” Feige said.
Miles Morales is coming too
Buried in the same breath: Feige confirmed Miles Morales will show up at some point. No date, no film, just a promise that he’s on the board somewhere between now and 2042.
It’s the kind of tease that would be maddening from anyone else. From the guy who spent a decade paying off a snap, it lands differently.
He knows how this sounds
Feige isn’t pretending the 2042 number is a guarantee. He built the doubt right into the pitch.
“As for whether we can hold on until 2042? Who knows. Will it be those movies that will be made? Who knows,” he said.
A general direction, he called it. Twenty years of comics stacked in a room, a team pointing at a wall, and a mutant roster that hasn’t fully arrived yet. Feige doesn’t need to know the exact ending. He just needs to know which way he’s walking.
