The RTX 5090 could hit roughly $6,500. That’s the number to sit with.

Taiwan’s Economic Daily News reports that Samsung, which supplies the memory chips Nvidia puts in its graphics cards, has raised DRAM prices by 20%. Nvidia's answer, per the report, is a price increase of up to 30% across its own GPUs.

One caveat worth holding onto: the increases being reported are supplier-side prices. They’ll filter down to retail eventually. Nobody knows by how much yet.

The mid-range is the real story here

Earlier hikes this year mostly stayed at the top of the stack. Not this time. The whole Blackwell lineup looks exposed.

Take the GeForce RTX 5070. It launched at $549 in February 2025. It’s currently going for about $650. Apply a flat 30% and you’re looking at roughly $850 for a mid-range card.

That’s the part that stings. A $6,500 halo card is a number most people read as trivia. An $850 5070 is a build budget falling apart.

This has been building all year

February was the first round. The RTX 5090 climbed to about $5,000 and never came back down.

There was also a stretch where it looked like Nvidia had discontinued the RTX 5070 Ti because memory demand had gotten so tight. That one turned out to be a false alarm.

But the pattern is hard to miss. Memory supply squeezes the card makers, and the card makers pass it along.

Nvidia isn’t the only one bracing

Valve said earlier this month that the RAM crisis is only getting worse. Microsoft appears to be worried about further price increases too.

So none of this lands as a shock. It lands as confirmation.

We’ve reached out to Nvidia for comment on the price increases and will update if we hear back. Until then, the 5070 you were saving for costs $650, and the reporting says that’s the cheap version.
