Mark August 18. That’s when Fallout: Invaders From Beyond goes live, and right now it’s the only Fallout release with a date attached to it.
Everything else in the franchise is a shrug and a maybe.
The one date you can actually circle
Invaders From Beyond arrives Tuesday, August 18, as part of Fallout 76’s ongoing Season 25, Appalachia Under Siege. Every other Fallout project on the board comes with a timeline you could describe as murky at best.
Fallout 5 is confirmed. A Fallout 3 prequel is coming as a Fallout 76 update. Bethesda also looks to be planning remakes of both Fallout 3 and New Vegas. None of that has a release window you can plan a weekend around.
Why fans stopped taking Bethesda at its word
It’s been a tense stretch to be a Fallout fan. The restructuring at Xbox and the layoffs at Bethesda haven’t done much for anyone’s confidence, and the recent confirmations haven’t fully patched that over.
Bethesda has insisted the layoffs won’t impact development across its various projects and won’t push titles like The Elder Scrolls 6 any further back. Players aren’t buying it on faith alone.
To its credit, the studio did respond. The official statement on Fallout 5 came out of that pressure, along with the string of franchise updates that followed.
August is stacked before the aliens even show up
There’s a runway leading into launch. Starting August 6 with The Zetans Are Back! leg of Appalachia Under Siege, Fallout 76 hosts a “Double Score and Murmrgh’s Special Pick” event through Monday, August 10.
Then a “Gold Rush and Double Mutation” weekend event runs August 13 to August 17. Invaders From Beyond kicks off the next day.
What you’ll be shooting at
Once it’s live, you can respond once every hour to a Zetan invasion at one of several rotating locations. You fight waves of alien forces, destroy Brainwave Siphons, then take on the event’s final boss, General Zeta.
The public event comes with alien-themed rewards attached: weapon plans, CAMP items, cosmetics and other rare loot. It’s a grind that pays out for newcomers and longtime Vault Dwellers alike.
Fallout 76 quietly became the franchise’s main stage
It’s never been the most beloved entry, and nobody’s pretending otherwise. But it’s the most content-packed Fallout you can play right now.
The game is in its 25th season and enters its 26th in September. That’s a long distance from the disastrous 2018 launch.
Over the years it’s turned into Bethesda’s primary delivery system for new Fallout content: fresh storylines, new characters and bosses, expanded regions of the Wasteland. If you want new Fallout, this is where it shows up first.
There’s a reason to reinstall now
The Fallout 3 prequel has a name: Raven Rock. It promises to shed new light on the Enclave’s history years before the events of Fallout 3.
Which makes the next few weeks useful ones. Gear up, work through what Fallout 76 already has, and be ready when General Zeta drops on August 18.
