Half a billion dollars. That’s how much revenue Resident Evil Requiem has already brought in, and it got there faster than any game in the series before it.
That number comes from analysis firm Alinea Analytics, whose data puts Requiem down as the fastest-selling Resident Evil ever. It passed $500 million in revenue in record time, which is a strong start for the newest chapter of a franchise that already sells a lot of games.
Where the 8.5 million copies went
According to Alinea’s data, Requiem has sold more than 8.5 million copies worldwide across PlayStation 5, Steam and Xbox Series X|S. The split tells you where survival horror fans spend their money these days.
PS5 leads with 48.1% of those sales. Steam comes in right behind at 43.4%, and Xbox trails well back at 8.6%. That makes PC and PlayStation close to a dead heat, with Xbox getting whatever is left.
The detail I like most is on the PS5 side. Of those sales, 30.8% were physical copies, which works out to about 1.2 million discs. (So yes, people still want a box on the shelf, especially for a series they’ve been collecting for decades.)
The Switch 2 question mark
One platform is missing from the math. Alinea didn’t give any figures for Nintendo Switch 2, so the 8.5 million total leaves out an entire console. Whatever Requiem sold on Nintendo’s hardware comes on top of that number.
Coming for Resident Evil 4 Remake
Requiem is selling faster than every earlier chapter, and it’s expected to eventually outsell Resident Evil 4 Remake. That’s a high bar: the remake has earned $600 million in total since release. Requiem is already $100 million short of it, and it hasn’t been out for long.
The timing helps. The Resident Evil movie seems to have given the franchise’s remakes a big boost, and Capcom’s recent sales pushed things further. Requiem is arriving while people are paying attention to the whole series again.
The fine print
Keep one thing in mind with all of this. These numbers come from a third-party firm, not from Capcom, so treat them with some caution until the publisher shares its own figures.
Resident Evil Requiem came out on February 27 for PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. It’s been out for months, and the only real question left is when it passes that $600 million.
