In Brief:

  • Pett.ai (official site) is shutting down its operations, ceasing on September 7, 2026.
  • Details on the fate of player assets and the AIP token remain undisclosed.
  • The studio’s AI-driven gaming model highlighted challenges in sustainability and economic viability.

Pett.ai shuts down operations

Pett.ai announced on August 22, 2026, that it will wind down operations, with its digital pets set to go offline permanently on September 7. The announcement lacked specifics about player assets, the AIP token, or any contractual elements beyond that date.

The studio expressed gratitude to its community, thanking “every PettBro, creator, supporter, and partner” who contributed to the project’s journey. On September 7, the “little purple friends” will cease to exist.

What the game offered

Pett.ai integrated AI with a pet care gaming model, allowing players to engage with their pets through feeding, entertainment, and real risk of neglect. The game featured ten mini-games alongside competitive PvP modes and Guild Wars.

Central to the experience was an AI framework utilizing five large language models, enabling pets to learn and adapt over time. Supporting features included image generation, crypto research tools, and plans for an AI Agent Factory.

The gameplay’s economy operated under what was termed an AI Central Bank, managing rewards through real-time inflation adjustments, aiming to counteract common issues in reward-based games.

PettBro, launched on December 18, 2025, automated user interactions with pets, performing at least eight transactions daily to maintain pet health. This agent was accessible via the Pearl app store, expanding its use cases alongside trading, DeFi asset management, and social media generation. The onboarding process concealed blockchain complexity, allowing for sign-ins via Google or Apple and simplified wallet management.

David Minarsch, CEO of Valory and a founder of Olas, stated at launch, “AI agents should not be just for traders and developers. PettBro is special because it combines a fun and social experience with tangible support for the crypto world.”

The fate of the token

The AIP token operated on Base, with a maximum supply of 500 million and a circulating total of approximately 349.51 million. Trading primarily occurred against WETH on Aerodrome.

The token’s value fluctuated, peaking at 0.04323 USD on January 22, 2025, before declining significantly to 0.0001584 USD at the shutdown announcement. This drop represents a 99.6 percent loss from its peak, leaving it with a market capitalization of about 55,300 USD.

Broader implications

Pett.ai’s closure mirrors trends within the web3 gaming sector, where numerous studios are shutting down or pivoting in 2026. The common theme involves initial token spikes, followed by a downward trend leading to an operational wind-down as financial resources deplete.

While Pett.ai’s approach was distinct, its failure is consistent with persistent economic challenges in the industry. The AI agent concept persists as an area of exploration, with other projects potentially looking to develop similar user-driven automation within gameplay.

For players, the timeline is tight. Any assets retained within the Pett.ai ecosystem risk uncertainty until the September 7 deadline, as no formal wind-down process has been communicated.
