Rockstar Games has officially announced a three-hour Grand Theft Auto VI soundtrack album from Justice, and pre-orders are open now.
Rockstar and the Grammy-winning French electronic duo announced the Grand Theft Auto VI: Original Score together. It’s out December 11 through Because Music, Ed Banger and Rockstar Games. You can get it as a 2-CD set or a 3-LP set, and the vinyl comes in a limited crystal clear edition or standard black. Both have 30 tracks, and there are several bonus digital tracks on top of that. Together they add up to a three-hour suite of music from the game.
A score that reacts to how you play
Rockstar hand-picked Justice (Gaspard Augé and Xavier de Rosnay) for the job. The pair worked closely with the studio’s team to match the thematic beats of the game, adjusting their signature sound to fit the world of Grand Theft Auto VI and the story of Jason and Lucia.
Here’s the detail that matters for anyone who plays more than they listens. According to the official announcement, the score is dynamically tuned to game events as they happen. It changes in response to the different ways players deal with the people and places across Leonida.
“The scope of the game is so large geographically and thematically that it was clear from the beginning the music would also have to be very broad in terms of emotions, genres, and textures,” de Rosnay said. “We were given the freedom to explore as many things as we needed to, musically speaking.”
Three hours of music from a band that usually ships albums well under an hour makes that freedom sound plausible.
Two previews so far
The first taste was “Flower In a Hurricane,” with Tame Impala, SZA and King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard. That song became Justice’s first non-feature track to reach the Billboard Hot 100, landing at No. 62, and it debuted at No. 34 on the US alternative radio chart.
The second preview is “Pusher,” which leans toward the score’s instrumental side. It’s also the first time Justice has worked with Gesaffelstein, another French electronic name with a long track record.
How Justice got here
Justice showed up nearly 20 years ago on the Parisian labels Ed Banger Records and Because Music with the single “Waters of Nazareth.” Their debut album, which included the global hit “D.A.N.C.E.,” made their name.
The GTA VI score comes right after the Hyperdrama run. That campaign opened with a stage-closing set at Coachella and wrapped with an arena tour of the US. Somewhere in the middle, the duo won a Grammy for Best Electronic Recording.
Before the album drops, Justice will play a DJ set at Simifest in Mexico City on December 5.
