How the prizes break down
The studio said in a follow-up post that it’s running an Arcade leaderboard for the event. Players can run as many times as they like, and only their best run counts.
First place gets 10 Bronze Seed Packs. Second and third get five packs each, places four through 10 get two each and places 11 through 50 get one pack apiece. That’s 74 seed packs in total.
Registration happens at the booth, either by scanning a QR code or by picking a username and submitting a wallet address while playing.
Limited hours
MoG isn’t on the floor all day. The studio listed these sessions, in India Standard Time: noon to 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 3; 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. and noon to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 4; 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5; and 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, Nov. 6.
Getting into the venue still costs something. “A valid Devcon ticket is required to enter the venue,” the studio said. It pointed questions to @heynejc.
The Yield Fields tie-in
The Devcon prize pool is the latest link between MoG and Yield Fields, which describes itself as a farming game where players “Rip packs, plant crops, harvest the yield.” It’s live on Robinhood.
The two games already ran Deed Season together, an 11-day Maze of Gains x Yield Fields event from Sept. 17 to Sept. 28 with 850 whitelist spots for the Deed mint up for grabs. Players earned Golden Corn by smashing Corn Stalks in Arcade or Expedition runs. The studio later posted that $6,000,000 was spent on Deed season.
The Deeds mint moved to Robinhood Chain, with a gated mint on Oct. 12 and a public auction on Oct. 13.
Abstract wind-down
Mumbai comes during an unsettled stretch for the franchise. On Oct. 6, Igloo Inc. said its Abstract chain will go dark on Dec. 15. Abstract hosts the Onchain Heroes idle RPG, Maze of Gains and the dollar-pegged VALOR stablecoin.
“Abstract is winding down, but your Ringbearers, heroes, and MoG keys are safe,” the studio said in Oct. 8 patch notes. “No action needed for now, and we’ll share next steps soon.”
The same patch retired Marbles, the Abstract XP path, and refunded Expedition Passes pro rata in VALOR. That week, the studio reported 1,837 runs, 23,601 keys burned and a $16,521 weekly prize pool.
Background
Skarly, who previously worked on Wolf Game, created Maze of Gains, a turn-based roguelike dungeon crawler set in the Onchain Heroes universe. The studio rebuilt it as MoG 2.0 and opened the new version with an event called Dragma Unleashed that ran through Sept. 3.
Players can’t trade Devcon leaderboard spots, but they can skip the trip. The studio said anyone who can’t get to Mumbai can play Maze of Gains online at any time.
