MegaCryptoPolis is relaunching as MCPOLIS, and the biggest gameplay change is that its citizens now have to commute. In the previous version of the city sim, citizens could be active everywhere at once. In MCPOLIS, a citizen who takes a job across town has to travel there, then find somewhere to recover their stamina once the shift ends.

That turns job hunting into a puzzle. A better-paying job can leave a citizen worse off after they pay for transport and a bed. Players can work through those trade-offs themselves, or hand control of a citizen and its wallet to an AI agent and let the agent figure it out.

Jobs, wages and the hourly shift

The original MegaCryptoPolis launched in 2018 with an economy built around land, buildings and resource production. Owners assigned citizens directly to their buildings. In MCPOLIS, buildings advertise jobs with wages and qualification requirements, and citizens apply and work by the hour.

Housing and transport locations matter more as a result. A factory with cheap inputs can still struggle to make a profit if it has to pay a premium to attract workers.

A new way to trade resources

An order book replaces the old pack-based trading system, and each building keeps its own inventory. Owners can buy inputs while they’re cheap and stockpile them ahead of a shortage. Goods still move instantly when sold. The team is considering physical deliveries for a future update, so for now the city’s geography matters much more to workers than to the goods they make.

Agents and players on the same terms

Players can switch between controlling a citizen directly and letting an agent act for them. MCPOLIS uses a Model Context Protocol interface, which is designed to give agents the same information and actions as people playing in the browser client. Every citizen gets a wallet, and payments settle in USDC through the x402 agent payment protocol.

Newick comes first

The first test is Newick, a demo city built to keep costs and risks close to zero. Players can bring existing citizens into Newick and later return them to their home cities. Citizens created or acquired in Newick stay there.

MCPOLIS expects to share opening details after 12th November and aims to let players try the new gameplay before the end of the year. Newick should show whether running a team of agents is fun. The legacy cities will show what happens when those teams compete for wages that people can cash out.
