The words every Axie Infinity player meets, explained in plain language. Each entry is tied to the Sky Mavis page that backs it: the Axie Breeding Guide or the Axie Infinity whitepaper, both read on 2026-10-30. Game rules change, so open the linked page for the current numbers.
Terms 19
- SLP (Smooth Love Potion)
A token used to pay for breeding. Axie Infinity does not sell it directly: players earn it in the PvP Arena and sync it to their wallet.
- AXS (Axie Infinity Shards)
The governance token of the Axie universe. Holders can stake it for AXS rewards and take part in votes. The maximum supply is 270,000,000. It is also part of the breeding fee.

- Breed count
How many times an Axie has been bred, written as n/7. An Axie can be bred up to 7 times; the SLP price of each breeding rises with the count.

- Breeding cost
Each breeding costs 0.5 AXS plus SLP from each parent: 900 at 0/7, up to 15,300 at 6/7. The game shows the exact amounts before you confirm.
The AXS part is called variable and open to adjustment by the whitepaper, so read the breeding screen.

- Sterile
An Axie that reached its maximum number of breedings can no longer breed. The cap keeps the Axie population from growing without limit.
- Parents and siblings
Axies can not be bred with their own children, and not with their siblings.
- Egg and incubation
A breeding delivers an egg to your inventory. After a 5 day incubation you can morph the egg into an Axie and see its genes.

- Dominant gene (D)
The gene that decides how a body part looks and which cards the Axie gets. A parent passes its D gene on with a 37.5% chance.

- Recessive genes (R1, R2)
Hidden genes behind the dominant one. R1 is passed on with a 9.375% chance and R2, the minor recessive, with 3.125%.

- Body parts
Every Axie has 6 body parts and a body type. Each part carries three genes: D, R1 and R2.

- Class
Every Axie belongs to one of 9 classes: Beast, Aquatic, Plant, Bug, Bird, Reptile, Mech, Dawn and Dusk.

- Ronin
The blockchain network that SLP, AXS and Axies live on. Tokens can be swapped for AXS and SLP on Ronin through Katana.

- Katana
The exchange on Ronin where you can swap other tokens for AXS and SLP.

- Staking
Locking up AXS to earn AXS rewards through the staking dashboard. The whitepaper sets aside 78,300,000 AXS for staking rewards.

- Community Treasury
A pool of assets fed by 4.25% of all Axie marketplace transactions and the AXS part of breeding fees. AXS stakers are meant to govern it over time.

- Lunacia
The homeland of the Axies, divided into tokenized plots of land that act as homes and bases for Axies. It has 90,601 plots.

- Land
A plot of Lunacia held as an NFT that players can trade freely. Plots can be upgraded over time with resources found while playing.

- Axie Classic
The original game, released in December 2019: a turn-based card battler where players build teams of Axies to fight in the arena.
- Axie Origins
A later game released in early access on 6 April 2022: an evolution of the card battler with real-time combat, 3 free starter Axies and progression through runes and charms.

How it works
We only add a term when an official Sky Mavis page explains it, and we keep the wording short and in our own words. Numbers such as the breeding cost or the gene rates are copied from the source and dated. For live use, the breeding cost calculator and the gene odds calculator apply these rules.
FAQ
What do D, R1 and R2 mean?
They are the three gene positions of each body part: dominant, first recessive and second recessive. The dominant gene decides how the part looks and its cards.
What does SLP stand for?
Smooth Love Potion, the token used with AXS to pay for breeding.
How many classes are there?
Nine: Beast, Aquatic, Plant, Bug, Bird, Reptile, Mech, Dawn and Dusk.
