At noon ET today, the best Stardew Valley-like on Steam stops calling itself Early Access.
Fields of Mistria hits 1.0 worldwide, and if you’ve spent the last few years scrolling past carousel after carousel of farming sims wondering which one is worth your weekend, this is the one.
The genre got crowded fast
Stardew Valley launched in 2016 and set off something nobody quite planned for. At one point the number of games chasing it was manageable. Now it’s measured in the hundreds.
Steam is full of them. Most blur together.
Fields of Mistria doesn’t, and the reviews back that up. NPC Studio's game is sitting at “overwhelmingly positive” as of publication, which is not a rating you stumble into by accident.
What it actually is
The pitch from the developers is short: “Start your new life – Build the farm of your dreams as you discover a world brimming with possibilities. Magic, romance, and adventure all await you in this nostalgic farming/life sim RPG.”
So yes, farming. Yes, romance. That’s the Stardew half, and it works.
But the magic and adventure pieces pull from somewhere else entirely, closer to classic Legend of Zelda than to anything about crop rotation. The two halves fold together instead of sitting next to each other, which is the part most imitators can’t manage.
The 1.0 details that matter
A new official FAQ cleared up the questions people were actually asking.
Your saves carry over from Early Access. You won’t need a fresh file for achievements, and they’ll be applied retroactively, which is genuinely the correct way to handle this.
The developers also have “no plans” to raise the price for the full launch.
And 1.0 isn’t the finish line. More content is planned beyond the core launch.
About the translations
Localization is still in progress, and the team was upfront about it: “Gameplay features and content in the 1.0 update will be accessible by any player regardless of selected language, but translated text (particularly for late-game features) may be missing or incomplete initially depending on the selected language. The Beta localizations will be updated and improved regularly until they are ready to be considered fully released. If a piece of text is unavailable in your selected language, it will temporarily appear in English.”
Nothing gets locked off. Some late-game text might just show up in English while the beta translations catch up.
Console players, sit tight
On “potential ports,” the answer is a shrug for now. The team is focused on the Steam launch, and ports will be “evaluated” once everything is settled on PC.
Which means today, it’s a Steam game. Noon ET, no price hike, your old farm still standing exactly where you left it.
