In Brief:
- Uncharted is shutting down its operations and the game Fishing Frenzy due to inability to find a viable business model.
- Servers will close on June 25, 2026, with players still able to access the game until then, but trading of the FISH token has been restricted.
- The team plans to redistribute remaining assets based on Karma scores and has open-sourced its dataset for future use by partners.
Uncharted ends operations
Uncharted is ceasing operations, concluding it cannot sustain itself or its flagship game Fishing Frenzy. Co-founder Derek Lau announced the decision on X, stating the team was unable to demonstrate product-market fit despite their efforts.
Fishing Frenzy launched on Ronin in April 2025, becoming the first permissionless game on the platform. Servers for the game will shut down on June 25, 2026, at 2 a.m. UTC. Players can continue to enjoy the game until closure, but the ability to purchase USDC packages has been removed. The FISH token is now spend-only and untradable, though players can still utilize it in-game.
The team expressed gratitude for community support but acknowledged the challenges in validating their crypto gaming thesis. “I’m sorry we couldn’t deliver,” Lau said.
Returning value to the community
In a bid to redistribute remaining value, Uncharted will withdraw USDC from the FISH/USDC liquidity pool. Distributions will be based on Karma scores calculated from a snapshot taken on June 15, 2026. Players with positive Karma will receive an airdrop of USDC in their linked Ronin wallets.
All non-diving USDC expenses since the launch of Chapter 3 on May 14 will also be refunded automatically. Proof of Distribution rewards will be managed by Sky Mavis and allocated according to Karma scores.
Uncharted has made its Karma score dataset open-source, inviting other teams to use it for potential rewards in the future. The company plans to share the snapshot with partner projects to honor any commitments to high Karma users.
Future of player assets
Once the servers close, players will lose access to server-side items, including collectibles. Uncharted stated it would maintain a record of these assets, but confirmed there are no immediate plans for a new project.
The Fishing Frenzy Discord will remain open for at least 30 days post-final payout, offering support and answering questions. The project’s website will remain online but will not be actively managed, while the X account will stay available until the payout process concludes.
