There’s a free three-month Xbox Game Pass trial floating around right now, and it comes from an unlikely place: NVIDIA.
The last few months at Xbox have been messy. Studio shake-ups across the company, a rethink of the whole hardware strategy, and a Game Pass subscription that’s gotten more contentious with every price hike. Layoffs, canceled projects, restructuring, and an ongoing argument about whether the various Game Pass tiers are worth what Microsoft‘s asking. Longtime players have plenty of reasons to feel uneasy about where the brand’s headed.
Game Pass is still the pitch, even if the price stings
None of that changes the fact that Game Pass is Xbox’s strongest card. A rotating library of big releases, indie stuff, first-party titles, Day One launches. But the price increases and the plan reshuffling have made signing up a harder sell for a lot of people.
Which is what makes this promotion worth a look if you’ve been holding out. Eligible players can claim a free trial for a limited window and poke around the catalog without paying the usual subscription cost.
How to claim it, step by step
The route is a little roundabout. Download or open the NVIDIA App on a compatible PC, make an NVIDIA account if you don’t have one, and sign in. Find the reward in there and redeem a complimentary three-month Discord Nitro membership. Bundled into that Nitro membership: three months of Xbox Game Pass Starter.
So yes, this is technically a Discord Nitro deal wearing a Game Pass hat.
The catch that’ll disqualify a lot of you
The offer is meant for new or returning Discord Nitro subscribers. If you currently pay for Nitro, or if you’ve had a membership at any point in the last 12 months, you’re reportedly out. The deal may simply not show up when you log into the NVIDIA App.
Worth checking anyway. It costs you nothing to look.
What Starter actually gets you
Game Pass Starter is the entry-level tier, and it’s built accordingly: roughly 50 games in a curated catalog. DOOM Eternal, Fallout 4, Ori and the Will of the Wisps and The Elder Scrolls Online are among the titles on offer. You also get up to 10 hours of cloud gaming a month.
The gap in the tier is online console multiplayer, which isn’t included. If your gaming diet is mostly paid multiplayer, this tier won’t do much for you.
It isn’t Ultimate, and it won’t be available to everyone. But if you’ve been on the fence about Game Pass and want to see what’s inside before committing, three months and 50 games for free is a reasonable way to find out.
