Our verdict on Basepoker
Despite the name, Basepoker is not a Base-chain dapp, and it is not really an on-chain game. It is a Costa Rica–licensed, browser-based poker room that uses crypto mainly as its cashier: USDT on Ethereum and Polygon alongside a few other coins, no download, and sign-up by email, social login or wallet. The play itself is conventional No Limit Texas Hold'em. The blockchain element covers deposits, withdrawals and a shuffle the operator describes as blockchain-seeded — hands are not settled by smart contract.
What works is the friction it removes. Seating takes under a minute, deposit minimums are small, and the self-service table builder is genuinely unusual: anyone can spin up a private game, invite friends and set the rake themselves, which makes it a workable host for a recurring home game.
What does not work as advertised is the economics. Rake is ordinary — roughly five percent in cash games, up to ten in tournaments — discounted through rakeback rather than removed. The game list is thin, with Hold'em only and Omaha still promised, and the anonymity pitch ends at larger withdrawals, where identity checks apply.
It suits crypto players who want a fast, low-ceremony cash-game room, and will disappoint anyone expecting provably on-chain poker.
