Our verdict on EVE Online

EVE Online is a long-running science-fiction MMO built around spaceship piloting in a single shared galaxy rather than instanced servers. One thing to settle before anything else: EVE Online itself has no blockchain component. The economy people talk about is an in-game player economy, not a token layer. CCP Games' on-chain title is a separate game — EVE Frontier, a survival-focused space simulation first built on Redstone, an Optimism-based Ethereum layer-2, and now migrating to Sui, with EVE and LUX as its two tokens.

What works is the ambition of that economy and the politics stacked on top of it. Currency is earned through mining, hauling, trading and combat, then spent on ships, modules and upgrades, which means market activity is genuine player behaviour rather than a vendor loop. Corporations and alliances hold territory and fight over it, so a battle has a cause and a consequence outside the fight itself, and the lore accumulates from what players actually did.
