MARS4

MARS4 is a Mars colonisation project on Polygon, built around virtual land on a modelled version of the red planet. The pitch is settlement rather than shooting: claim a parcel, put buildings on it, extract resources, and trade the results with other holders. Assets sit on-chain, so parcels and materials are transferable outside the client rather than locked to an account.

What works conceptually is the framing. Mars is a setting with real constraints — scarcity, logistics, distance — and a strategy-and-management design fits it far better than the generic fantasy skins most land-based projects reach for. Polygon also keeps the transaction cost of frequent trades and construction actions low enough that routine play is not gated on gas.

The reservation is the same one that applies to every land-first design: value depends on how many other colonists show up. Empty parcels generate nothing, a thin trading pool means resource sinks and sources never balance, and the published material describes systems and ownership more than it describes moment-to-moment play. Little of what is public settles what a session actually involves.

It suits players drawn to territory, resource chains and long-horizon building, who are comfortable evaluating an economy before committing capital to it. Anyone wanting immediate action should look elsewhere.
