MetaCene
What is MetaCene?
MetaCene is a post-apocalyptic MMORPG in which survivors of a collapsed civilisation build a new one. It is a full massively-multiplayer game rather than a light one: player-versus-environment and player-versus-player content side by side, guilds organised as DAOs with real governance over their affairs, and in-game editors that let players make content rather than only consume it. The project ran public alpha tests before launch and positions itself as a large-scale, long-session game. The official site is metacene.io.
How to play MetaCene
Beyond the usual questing and levelling, two systems carry most of the game's economy. Mining uses Mecha devices placed in mining areas on the map, where what you get depends on which Mecha you deploy and how long you leave it running β a deliberate, planned activity rather than an idle one. Boss hunting is the other: powerful bosses appear around the world carrying NFT loot, and the reward goes to whoever lands the killing blow, which turns a boss into a contest between players as much as a fight against the monster.
MetaCene tokenomics & earning
Two tokens divide the work: MUD is the transactional currency, used for equipment, NFT trades, teleportation and resurrection, while MAK sits above it in the economic design. Items, gear and assets trade freely between players, and progression is meant to stay open to free players as well as paying ones. The honest caution is the one that applies to every player-driven MMO economy: what you earn is what another player will pay, and last-hit loot mechanics reward organised, competitive groups far more reliably than they reward casual play.

Our verdict on MetaCene
MetaCene is pitched as a blockchain MMO built around a post-apocalyptic setting, where the loop is less about combat encounters than about accumulation and positioning: gathering resources, raising structures, researching technology, and pushing the borders of your civilization outward against other players doing the same. The listing places it on Polkadot, and the on-chain layer is framed the familiar way β verifiable transactions and player-owned assets rather than anything that changes how the game is actually played.
What the concept has going for it is the socialζΆ β alliances, player-to-player trade, and open conflict over territory give a persistent world real stakes, and a game whose economy is genuinely contested tends to hold attention longer than a solo grind. What is harder to assess is everything specific. The available material describes a genre, not a game: no detail on session length, on how a new player enters a world where established alliances already hold the good ground, or on what the token layer costs to participate in.
Worth a look if you enjoy long-horizon territorial strategy and are comfortable evaluating a project largely on its own marketing. Anyone wanting a clear picture of moment-to-moment play should start at the official site.
